Starting the thread before I have the car.
Buy in for the car is $1000. I'll have bill of sales for it and the tow dolly.
It's cosmetically ratty. I have no idea what I'm going to do to it, but this may very well being my first Challenge entry, for real this time.

$1000 for any running E36 is seemingly a good deal nowadays! Pics pls this sounds fun.
I'll post pictures when I get the car. It's black with a tan interior. Plenty of clear coat peeling off. Oddly enough, the suspension is probably the best part of the car.
Here is a video of it.

I'm taking dusterbd13-Michael's advice and trying to build a Challenge car I might want to keep driving after the Challenge. I've been looking at turbo ideas and possible V8 swaps.
It looks like the pickup may be happening Wednesday, November 24th. Cross your fingers.

I'm looking forward to this one.
Nice! Looking forward to this as well. And like others have said, $1000 is a STEAL for a running e36 in any condition it seems.

In you state of residence, do you have to complete a smog test to register the car? If not, I would still complete a smoke test of the intake system. The cars are know for their vacuum leaks and the numerous effects they have on how the motors run.
But when you have them dialed in the M50 is a sweet motor. Please do not underestimate the sweet six in your car. Have fun in any event.

Not on a car this old. I have years worth of expense and maintenance records coming with the car, but making sure it is as reliable as I think it is will be the first order of business. It was "trailered to rallycross events" reliable, not daily driver reliable.
I've removed the names, but this is the running list right now, as curated by the previous owners.
Another RCX thread to follow. How exciting!!! 2
Loaded up before heading home. More pictures and details as they happen.
The tool box, zip ties, floor jack, chucks, stands and whatnot came with it. There is some recoup right there!

It's replacing a Subaru for rallycross. If I'm only going to be able to make a few events, I'm looking for the most fun.
This is on hold until my arms are no longer broken.

There's gotta be a story in that line.

Oh do tell. That line is a real tease
The story of the arms.
More commentary is in the minor rant thread, page 1508.

Wow that sucks. Put me on the list of people glad that you're still with us.
That wasn't happening before I towed it home. There was no noise from the differential during testing. I am hoping it is water or something.
Alternative take: The BMW is marking its new territory.
The title for this has been missing for a few months, and I finally found it today. See the minor rants section for my feelings on this.
To do list:
Clean it a bit
Reconnect power steering.
Finish gutting the interior. Maybe I can sell something for recoup?
Probably needs tires.
I went to the DMV today to transfer the title and... it was the wrong title. I'll be able to get a valid title for it, but this is becoming comical.
Update, since I was doing car things today. The title should be on the way. The first set of things will be cleaning it up and getting it road legal.
To do that:
Clean (yep)
Fix one brake light
Polish headlamps
Update tires. I might have a line on a wheel/tire combo for $200, but I also picked up a set of free wheels (no tires) today. There is a used and old new stock tire place around the way that sells new tires for $45 each, so this is a matter of consideration.
The steering rack was leaking (they all do) so it was de-powered by the previous owner. I'll want power steering in this, since I may use it to teach the Boy Spawn to drive manual in it. It's my understanding that Z3 racks are a drop in and don't leak like the E36 racks are prone to do.
Started the BMW at lunch and let it run for a bit. It's slitting idle too much. I need to get going with it. This was taking right after starting it up.
I broke out the power washer and a brush and got most of the spring time crud off of it, then spent a bit of time on the headlights. They came out pretty good, considering how covered in schmutz they were.
My free time and the weather haven't been lining up.
Hoping to give it a bit of attention in the evenings this week.
