Hey! Apex windows! Never miss an apex with those front quarter windows.

Yes the G6 is a runner. It was a total with significant body damage and minor front suspension damage.
As for what it's running, it is the rare combo of 3.9L (3900) and manual trans.

Yep, pretty much. It needs a radiator (ordered that yesterday), coolant, weld the muffler back on, maybe a battery, an oil change, and it should be good to go. We've already fixed the broken right front suspension and axle. And since the car was totaled in a crash I'd expect most of the mechanical parts to still work. We'll find out once the radiator comes in.
If you do get the hankering to sell that post challenge.... it would make a hell of a trials bike hauler.
Welding, and more welding. The C-pillars got more attached today. And Mrs. ShawneeCreek came out today and helped me remove the van's windshield. This will give me much better access to weld the body onto the car and to replace the upper firewall. Here are a couple of pictures to give you an idea of how different the the windshield location is now. I've marked equivalent locations on the car and van with the green arrows.
As you can see, I'm going to need to make some kind of access door in order to be able to fill up the coolant and clutch hydraulic fluid. Until next time.
So you're going to have to pull the windshield to replace the struts now? Talk about "service position", lol.
Self supporting. No gantry needed.
We've still got some holes to fill and welds to do. But the van body is on the car! Until next time.
Wish i could keep clicking +1. I almost did similar to my old 92. Should have. Was going to go s10 chassis and tbi v8, aborted the idea when i got a free truck
Had to finish up early today. But I decided to do a motivational mock up before I closed the garage. This time I dug out the lower rocker panels to put on too.
Yep. It's still going to look awesome

I think it needs push out front windows hinged at the top ala VW bus

Harbor Freight Professional Windshield Removal Kit
Mrs. ShawneeCreek helped. Push the wire through the sealant at the base of the windshield, connect the handles, and saw through the sealant all the way around. We snagged the wire a couple of times and had to replace it, but that's easy. Then the two of us just lifted it off. It's safely resting in the rafters now. I'll just need to clean the extra sealant off both the frame and the glass with razor blades before we reinstall it.
NOHOME wrote: Not heard of anyone else having pulled it off. Removing the window, yes. In one piece? No.
It helps to lay the wire down into the gap below the glass and only pull/cut from the inside so you're not dragging the wire against the glass under pressure.

If not his, someone's. I would rock this thing so hard. . .
What about a double windshield alā the Concorde? Put the G6 windshield in and then run a plexiglass in the van frame with dzus fasteners? Almost looks like it would work, although it's probably a terrible idea.
A removable windshield is not that hard. I've worked on a couple racecars where the windshield sat on rubber weatherstripping and was held down by thick aluminum tabs that were bolted down.
Isn't that what the NASCAR teams do? I believe the bars in the center keep the windshield/backlight from blowing out when they go ass over tea kettle.
In reply to 06HHR:
I've had stock cars and old Corvette road racers. If you had to use a factory glass windshield it made them quicker to change during a pit stop.

Hmmm... interesting. That gives me some ideas. Like make the windshield removable along with the remnants of the cowl and the upper firewall. Essentially opening up the entire engine bay as it was in the car.
Fun fact for the day: The APV GTP is now a full 5 inches shorter than a stock APV minivan, and only 4 inches taller than a stock GTP Coupe.
