The IAAI Auction is an addictive drug isn't it ?
I'll be following along to see what you do with it. At the moment are your plans fix & flip or Challenge contendor?
In reply to Indy - Guy :
It is addictive, if it is in decent shape I would like to see about making it a challenge car.
I ended up bidding more than I had originally planned on, so I think with all the fees I am at $1,300 or $1,400.
A bit hard to tell, but that looks like it potentially has an upgraded intercooler in addition to the intake. I'm curious what else you find.
In reply to Somebeach (Forum Supporter) :
If you find you need parts, particularly if you want to Challenge it, find "Milans' Workshop" on Facebook. His name is Milan Applegate and he parts out MINIs cheap.
In reply to DeadSkunk (Warren) :
Thanks. I also found a place called Willmek auto parts that parts out a lot of minis here in Ohio.
In reply to BoxheadTim :
I think it does look like an aftermarket intercooler, I tried to zoom in on the picture to see if I could see the logo on the couplers but it was too blurry.
The mini got delivered today.
Bad news first I think the accident caused the steering rack to break, I need to look at it closer to be sure but that is my guess now.
the intercooler is aftermarket the silicon coupler's say DDMworks.
17" ASA wheels, looks like the front rotors are quite a bit larger that the back. I know some people do r56 brake swaps into these r53s so I will have to look into that and see if it was done one this one.
Rear:
Front:
Here are some of the stickers that are on the car, I need to do some googling to see if anything turns up from them.
There was a Bluetooth thing in the obd2 port and some cut wires just above it.
There is no rear seat and there are some remnants of a stereo system in the back.
15% wmw pulley
also definitely need a new steering rack, I think one of the bolts broke off in the subframe so I maybe learning about how to drop the whole subframe on a r53 mini.
There are plenty of You Tube videos on how to put the car into "Service Mode" which allows you to drop the sub frame. It's not hard but you do need to find all the fasteners, and unhook all the bits......

I found this one tonight. Seems pretty good.

You can buy parts, or you can buy a parts car.........
Yes, Indy-guy, the salvage auction can be addictive.
Picked up mini number two today, the previous owner was nice enough to have zip tied the wheel key for the wheel bolts to the dash so I was able to pull the wheel off and have a look.
It looks like just a bent trailing arm, as far as I could see in the pouring down sleet the mount points where the trailing arm actually bolts to the car where still ok.
I also found all kind of good parts.
-Adjustable coil overs not sure on brand, if you recognize the brand let me know.
-Front strut bar
-Detroit tuned supercharger pulley
-hotchkins adjustable control arms
-hotchkins rear sway bar
- Alta air filter
- there are ddm works silicon couples on the intercooler on this on as well, so I don't know if the intercooler is upgraded as well.
I braved the snowy roads today to pickup parts from Milan, thanks deadskunk for the referral. He was fun to talk to and he had the parts I wanted at great prices.
I ended up buying some parts that I am not sure I will end up needing or not.
I also found that the red mini has a harness but only on the passenger seat. I don't know why only the passenger seat?
Those look to be ISC Coilovers, Bimmerworld sells them and I'm sure others.
Both cars look like they could be lots of fun!
In reply to Somebeach (Forum Supporter) :
RE: one harness.
Theory: used as a track day car, the OP had a more aggressive driver's seat and complimenting harness but before letting the car leave he swapped back to the factory seat and seat belt, keeping the race seat.
Is there any evidence supporting this theory?
In reply to DeadSkunk (Warren) :
The plan now is see if I can get them both back on the road.
The red mini is a salvage title, so I will have to get that inspected to get a rebuilt title. I picked up some trailing arms today. I need to decide if I want to run the aluminum ones or the steel ones. I bought a set of each. I know if I want to run the aluminum I will need to run a spacer bushing to keep the r53 coilovers. I am hopeful that the red one just needs a new trailing arm and new rear control arms.
For the black one I got a replacement subframe with a steering rack already on it. It also already has a clear title, I just need to get it into the bmv (either fixed and driv it in or get the red one fixed and off the trailer so I can trailer the black one to the BMV)
