I traded my 03 Evo RS for my current STi. looking back, I should have tried to keep both. If money was no object then I would have, lol. Who needs to eat or pay bills right? Anyway, This Subie has brought me great joy and anger. Owning it since Nov.09 and all that has changed is a new engine, Apexi N1 coilovers and Invidia downpipe. It came with HKS Carbon catback exhaust, 18" work XSA wheels and some Whiteline suspension goodies. This car has seen better days to honest. Once we move into a house this winter the plan is to start the process of going over the car in detail and start the fixing. I have a huge list of performance upgrades that I am looking into, but the car needs to be 100% before that happens. thorough cleanings and inspections are first. Looking at either autocross or rally for it's future once it's paid off. For now I just drive it hard as my DD. Never been the person to go easy on a sports car. Once I update the car, this will be updated as well. Wanted to start a build log for myself and others. See my questions, confusions and solutions to building a boxer. Thanks for reading and stay tuned!

P.S. I will add some more photos when I get some time away from work. I have some in my car listing though

payments on a nearly 10 year old car

yikes

If the car needs attention and you have the stock parts, honestly I'd return to stock, use funds from sale of aftermarket parts to pay off the remaining car note then reboot the modifications to suite your competitive goals with the added monthly funds from not making payments

^^^ Its not like he's had it for 10 years. I can see the financial reasoning behind not having a vehicle loan, but most people don't have the cash to buy a 15,000 dollar car just laying around. Had I waited till I actually had the cash to buy my toys I'd have never bought them. I'd have missed that time frame in my life to enjoy them. I'm older now, Married, with kids soon, I could never justify buying a sport bike, or a two seat sports car any more. But I did it in the past, when I didn't have the cash on hand. Enjoyed every min of it and was ok with paying the interest on the loan. Did I give the banks some money? Sure, but it was worth it. I don't see much of a difference between a new car with a loan and a old one.

Now, as for needlessly spending money modding it before the bank note is paid off,...I totally agree with you.

It would have been paid off this month, but had to refinance. Wanted to get my credit cards completely paid off and into a house. Saving money where we can and that meant lowering the payments. I'm not able to modify the car until we get it paid off anyway actually, lol. House and debt come before the toy. The suspension and new motor were needed on the car. maybe not coilovers, but I wanted to have the ability to adjust them. I'm just chomping at the bit to start buying parts again! Still trying to upload pics too. Stupid computer isn't working though...

I can understand the excitement, pre-planning and research into pre-part purchasing

bought some Plastidip for my wheels. Not for the cool factor or the looks. I just hate the polished lip that much, lol. Might just spray the lip and leave the gunmetal. They need some good love and soak time. Cleaning the car thoroughly is on the list soon. That and getting all the fluids changed with new brakes. Regular maintenance, but still fun to me
