Prepping for paint, notice the scuffed up firewall and the semi clean ABS pump...

I've never been able to fathom the amount of work it takes to paint an engine bay. I admire the gumption.
Actually, I could say that about painting just about anything. I'm pretty damned lazy and paintwork done right takes a lot of tedious prep work.

An empty B13 SE-R engine bay...isn't that a familiar sight for me!
Keep up the good work!

It actually is a pretty close match. The paint for the engine bay obviously...

First coat... one area at a time

Motor mount...

Second coat...

Steering column boot moved out of the way...

Nissan is pretty smart they made the trim ring in two pieces...

I ilke to use vacume hose when I am cleaning up an engine bay to cover the brake lines. It makes a big difference. You just cut it to length and slice it lateraly down one side.

Dirty wiring...

Starting to wrap the wires with electrical tape...

Pushed car outside to make room for the engines which I picked up from my buddys shop where they were stored since I pulled them out earlier this year.

Thank you but I feel like all I do is clean and paint. All of my builds are pretty tame compared to what most of the guys on here pull off.
Anyways back to the pictures...
Here are the three engines involved in my little swap. The red valve covered engine is the SR20VE and it is going in my track car with the transmission from the SR20DE which is sitting on the wooden pallet. The SR20DET is behind the VE and also has a black valve cover.

The seat is out of a 1995 SC300 that I redid to flip... $5950.00 for a GRMer if anyone is interested. Twin Turbo anyone...

Here is the VE. Of course it is filthy, at least I can wait to clean it till after I finish the challenge car.. And yes it is sitting on a bag of mulch...

Here is the SR20DE from the track car. 281K miles and still going strong, it just doesn't have the grunt of the other two... It has served me well over the years

SR20DET without the turbo (which is sitting elsewhere in the garage). It is also filthy and desperatly needs to be cleaned. That seems to be the underlying theme of this build... Filthy

Perhaps this kind of set up?

I like the red engine bay! but using small children to power your car? Everybody knows you get more power out of teenagers. Of course, instead of dangling a cookie in front, you'll need to use booze.

The good thing about children is when they are not powering cars they can help clean them. This time I had to give them some goldfish crackers...

A little degreaser, a hose and a few dozen goldfish later...

Much better

How does that paint you used on the exhaust manifold and hot side of the turbo hold up to the heat over time?
