Some days craigslist fork you! Yesterday was not that day. $250 4.8 with complete harness, manifolds, etc... is wayyyyyy cleaner than I expected.
Have c5 headers already if needed.
Now is where the budget must be thoroughly examined to see just what can be done.
Car: $350 Engine $250 Recoup used $550
I should be able to start mocking up without oil pan. I have several truck pans so I'm just going to take one off the shelf, cut it down, build a sump with the dimensions of the ls2 vette pan, and attempt to glue them together with my tig welder. Then it's a matter of shortening the pickup tube an equal amount. $260 for oil pan, pickup, dipstick and tube is an ls swap budget killer. In the Datsun i got a $360 pan on clearance for $150 but still have $60 in the dipstick and tube. If successful with the corvette pan build i may build another for that just to make budget room.
Another key will be finding a used steering rack that someone is willing to deal on or doesn't know what they sell for.
Just ordered c5 motor mount brackets for $127. Will use them to make a pair of jigs so i can build the mounts for the challenge budget out of free scrap steel and then resell them when done so the budget hit will be $0.

Lowballed a 76mm .96 a/r snail on ebay and got it for $269
On target to do a way more budget version of the sloppy mechanics build list.

WINNING
Manifolds came off with zero broken bolts
Truck intake and cowl trying to occupy same space, cowl will have to give as there is no room in budget for car intake. I bought an ls1 intake for $25 when people were almost throwing them away for ls6 ones, then gave it to my buddy for the same not expecting they would shoot up to $200+

I never thought of that. This is awesome!
Also steering rack sourced $250. Hard when one part impacts 12.5% of budget but can't steer without it. I was getting fond of my dual ratchet strap tie rod system. Good news is if i can get one of the corvette rocker panels off unhurt it'll zero the car completely
