This E36 M3 is epic. I strongly support the RallySaab.

That's awesome that you may actually be getting this titled and on the road!

Everything with the bumper support repair was going great. Everything looked pretty straight and I had the new piece fitting and lining up with the existing structure great...then I test fit the bumper...

With the bumper lined up on the "non damaged side" (in quotes because it is slightly wrinkled, but not enough to matter I don't think) this is where the replacement mount wants to sit; about 1/2" inboard from where it should.

I need to take some measurements in my neighbor's uncrashed example and see what's off.

just beat it with a hammer. Beat the other parts to match.

I borrowed the neighbor's car and took some measurements.

The good news is I eyeballed the new mount to within 1/8" from where it should be.

The bad news is the other side is out of place by 3/4" towards the outside of the car, which is what was causing the alignment issue.

I have 2 ideas.

1) try to pull the other mount back to where it should be or

2) drill a new hole in the bumper structure and call it good.

I'm leaning towards option 2 for now, especially since someone has already messed up the bumper by doing the same thing on the other side when they tried to "fix" it before.

Im thinking porta-power and the neighbor's bulldozer when the time comes, but for now I will just leave the one side slightly out of whack and concentrate on getting it running.

I think in this instance, the Stance guys might just have the answer for a front bumper. Not your usual Stance car

The bumper support is done and it came out great!

I finally got a break in the weather (no rain and little wind) so I welded it on. My welds aren't the greatest, but all of the factory welds I have ground down have had some porosity, so mine are at least factory quality.

I used spray galv heavily in the overlapping area and over all of the welds, then hit it with some duplicolor. My idea to get bright red paint from a GM didn't pan out (it's basically a GM, right? ) Apparently red GMs are a brighter, oranger red. Once the front is back together you won't be able to see this area though.

A test fit of the bumper shows how far off the other mount is:

A few seconds with a drill will fix that! This side appears to be a bit low based on the body line between the fender and bumper, but the body line on the side I replaced is PERFECT!

I also spoke with the last owners again, they are still working on getting the release of interest notarized. As soon as I get that I can get a key for this thing and see if it runs.

Does this allow you to apply for a title now? I know a guy who knows a guy who sells saab parts if you need something.

Yes, I can get a salvage title after a VIN inspection. I set up the inspection for later this month. I just dropped $59 on a key cut to the VIN, and found a security module locally for $125.

Total spent:$257. Dang, this thing is getting expensive.

I picked up the new TWICE security module with matching key and reader today. Unfortunately I didn't win the lottery and the key doesn't fit the locks. Oh well, one cut to the VIN is on the way. I should have ordered it a month ago, they haven't asked me for any proof of ownership... When it arrives I will snap the transponder from the key that I got today in and should be good to go.
