hey I have a 2.2 dodge charger I'm looking for someone who worked on them and Daytonas or shadows .. really anyone who knows the 2.2 and 2.5's well... there's not a whole lot on the internet about them or what works with what.. so I have my wonderfull 84 shelby non turbo.. I found it in the woods, I pulled it out, put a computer in it and drove it like that for a few weeks on I'm guessing 10 year old gas.. the engines no good now.. it was it bad shape anyways.

what I want to do is swap motors from my parts car to the shelby.. parts car is a daytona with the 2.5, is the swaps cant be done what parts will work together?

So, yes you can put the 2.5 in your Charger. If you reuse your 84 head (it is different from the 90) you will have to swap cam gears from the 90 cam onto the 84 cam so the timing belt gears will match on the 90 motor. You'll also have to look at your cooling system and see whether the 90 water pump would throw a wrench into your heater core hose plumbing. If so, just put the 84 pump on the 90 block. You will have to keep the 90 crank pulley so if it a different diameter from the 84 crank pulley you would need different belts.

You'll have to get an 86-up 8-bolt flywheel and bolts for the 90 motor if your daytona is not already a 5spd. The 6-bolt flywheel from your 84 motor will not fit the 90 crank. I would replace the clutch while it is out and buy a clutch for the 90 car. It should have the same clutch splines as your 84 trans. 91-up are different splines so make sure you get a clutch for a 1990. Just get a parts store turbo clutch, it will hold a strong carb motor all day every day.

Your 84 distributor will go into the 90 block just fine.

So yes, you can mix and match stuff to get the 90 2.5 motor into your car, and you will probably just have to buy a bunch of gaskets and a flywheel.

Keep in mind your spark curve and fuel tuning will be off if you do this 2.5 swap.

I have nothing to add other than to say welcome to a fellow Nova Scotian! I no longer live there, but I was born and raised in Yarmouth. Hope you get it going! I think Pat and Vigo are the resident 80's Dodge experts, so you should be in good hands.

Pat probably knows a lot more than i do, he just doesn't run his e-mouth as much. Too busy winning the challenge in an 80s dodge (again), i guess.
