Just picked this car up.it has a bad engine.it has 147,000 on body and lots of new parts like sway bar, struts, brakes, tires.it had a cheap 300 paint job,and body will need some attention.

What all year engines would fit in mine?

Could i put a different engine in?

What all toyota cars would motor be compatible with?

What all could i do to soop up motor before installing?

Ill have pictures soon.the trans worked but a little ruff on shifting, dont know forsure if that is because it was getting hot.

You guys got any pics of these cars fixed up?it got all the power stuff so want to fix up,and interior nice, just needs couple simple things i can fix easy.

Really need some opinions on these cars and the motors.

5sfe, 99-ish 5sfe exhaust manifold. Head shave, intake, exhaust, light flywheel.

Should be entertaining enough.

Yeah both will. Might need some pressure plate trickery for v6.

3sgte bolts in, the wiring is the worst part.

V6 is more work but probably easy. Youll want a whole v6 camry donor available.

When i bought it it had oil oozing out behind the ac compresser.so i put some thick oil in made it about 4 miles here wierd noise and lots of smoke.pull over and you can see the dang rods inside hole about size baseball, but still runs that tells you these motors got to be tuff.no water leaking.wish i would of towed sooner may have fixed the other leak with weld or something and it was shaking bad motor mount i think,

This is GRM, you're supposed to be encouraging him to use something like two-stroke snowmobile engine, rotary, LSx, cummins diesel, or whatever the heck was under the hood of a trabant.

Didn't the mag have a project Camry or something?

A 92 5S-FE Camry was my first, awful car in every way from a performance aspect. Would barely spin cheap kumhos on wet pavement, more or less gave up accelerating past 80mph or so. Despite being mostly rust free the chassis was so floppy I could jack a front corner high enough to change a tire, and the rear tire wouldn't quite lift off the ground. Drove like a Buick.

Trade it out for a Corolla if you want something reasonably entertaining and upgradeable with a Toyota badge.

That's because the Camry is an American car.

Yep. A miserable, dismal failure of a project car that couldn't even complete a lap of the track without blowing its engine.

This, why would you do this?

Why would you do this two more times after the first time?

And most baffling, why would you announce this on a public forum?

This is not smart.

I imagine because he was trying to do the equivalent of "drop the clutch" in a car with an automatic transmission.

You can grab a 5sfe out of any 94-99 Camry and it should bolt right in. The ones out of the Celica's and MR2's will work but you will need to swap some bracketry, etc. as they have some slight differences. Don't plan to do ANY performance driving with this engine as they have serious oil starvation issues. We used this engine in our '94 Chumpcar and are now on our 3rd motor. Our 1st motor, while having over 150K, had a fresh oil pump, etc. and lasted 20 minutes on the track before having a main bearing go. Our fresh rebuild (total overhaul) let a rod bearing go after 6 hard laps and we were running an Accusump.

I just picked up a used 5sfe out of an MR2 for $400 so they are out there. Just keep watching CL. The swap isn't too bad (now that we've done it so many times) but the wiring harness can be a bitch to deal with. Get new crush washers for the power steering lines.
