I love this fence.
Long story short, this or something similar is an option on the table for privacy between myself and my neighbor (the other two options are A) bushes and B) ivy-fence). About the length of part of my driveway, similar in length to your fence. Straight line though, and it would be in the dirt/grass/likely gravel around it, not on concrete.
I wonder if something similar could be done with all wood parts?
If I did metal... can I set the metal post in concrete like a fence post relatively easily? Or would I need to install the j-bolt anchors into it and then bolt the post on top?
So this has been turning in my brain all night. Rough plan:
For the post uprights, get a 2x6x96. Sink 18" of it into a 8 or 12" diameter piece of concrete form tube and fill with concrete. Set the post at the same angle as the privacy boards - it will just look like a beefier one. Leave the top ~4" or so of the tube above ground. chamfer the edges of this to help with water runoff. The post will be 78" high from the top of the concrete. Build the posts with 8' spacing.
Run 2x4" boards across these like a traditional fence. 12" up from bottom and 6" down from top (just guessing at these numbers right now).
For the privacy boards, use 1x5.5" fence boards. Router them out and drill them the same as the OP has done. Wtih an angle around 50deg I should be able to get .75" - 1" of screw engagement at each hole. 4 screws per board.
So I need ~10ft of concrete form - $25
112 privacy boards - $188
5x 2x6x 8 foot - $32
8x 2x4x 8 foot - $29
5x 80lb concrete bag - $22
Screws - $35
Total - $299 (gravel not part of this)

What issues do you see with this plan?
I had some spare time on my hands during a staff meeting. Changed the posts to 4x4s.

My main comment is that you will probably want three horizontal pieces. This is because the verticals are going to want to bow one way or another as they age, and you won’t know which way, and without three fixed points, there’s nothing stopping them from developing their curves.
also, I’d suggest building the fence sans verticals on the ground alongside your post holes, and sink them all at the same time. At least put the thing together before pouring your concrete. I can’t see getting the posts located exactly where you want them without the horizontal pieces already in place to locate them.

Good point on the 3 horizontals. The issue one of my buddies pointed out is that it might look weird with everything having the same finish. I like the black contrast of the posts and horizontals in your fence.
I don't really see how to get a different finish with the same wood though... painting them different colors just seems like a huge pain in the butt.
Going to have to think on this a while longer... I might just end up doing metal after all.
