Flipped. Kinda works, but the reverse angle of the glass irks me a bit.
Now I cut off the top of the original frame and tried fitting it closer to the top. Seems like it might work. Might have to dip the top of the bed down instead of even with the door top.
Building a wooden jig to hold the glass and be able to adjust the height and angle might be needed.
And in other news I had been planning on making the bed flat like the other person doing this right now.

But now I kinda like the idea of basing off this pinch weld and letting the factory wheel wells be seen like most trucks. Means less of the wide panel on top.

Forgot or accidentally deleted the shot of it back to right side up with the frame cut, also kinda positioned the third brake light panel up there.
Trying to use as much factory pieces as I can to try to make it look nice.
A little more of this for now, but also going to start of the work of the bed frame and try to figure out how to hinge the tailgate.
In reply to dan0 :
Yeah, the reverse angle wasn't considered when I suggested that.....
Carry on Sir, you're doing fine work. đź‘Ť

Agreed on the exposed wheel wells. Or maybe 'covers' like trailer fenders so they'll look more normal while still not taking up too much space.
Have you considered starting with lexan for the rear window and eventually getting a flat glass cut?

When the bed is finished off, the plan was to do a rhino lining on it, so that would help the wheel well blend into the bed, or possibly a partial cover up depending on how it comes out.
Hadn't thought of lexan and then glass cut. Depends on how glass looks/costs. I just remember reading back many years of 1552 Design's MK4 Jetta Coupe they built and they spent a lot of time / money to get an OEM quality window. I had also thought the dimensions of a MK4 Golf might be a good fit as well.

I think this is going to be the way for the rear window. VW Amarok Pickup rear glass. I'm kinda a stickler for OEM which is why I tried to make the hatch glass work. I messed around with it more today. It would sit lower than I wanted if positioned vertical, and if slightly angled messes with the length of the bed/cab and proportions.
They were sold in Mexico so shouldn't be outrageous to find one and get it into the US.

Got tired of the ugly overhang and cut a little more off the roof to make it closer to the final form.
Rest of the week will probably just be some cardboard aided design. Gotta get some work in on parting out my other Touareg.

Not a urgent thing but the airbags leak, there's a jack mode that I've never put this in and it's been on blocks before for months with wheels off. So it squats down after a day or so hence the low in some pictures. It does look good aired up.

Someone on Facebook questioned the rigidity.
"but can you open the door when its flexed like that"
Yes.
Light isn't exactly cooperating but all four doors opened

Never had one lesson. It's not great and just tacked in for looks. I didn't exactly intend it to be the final piece. But it's almost good enough to leave and just fix it with the grinder and hammers...
Tomorrow I'll try the other side and work for a better piece.

Love seeing the progress on this.
Question: wouldn't it be easier to cut a rectangle (with rounded edges) around the handle spot and fill that in instead of trying to follow that bow tie shape?

Maybe, this is the first time I'm doing anything like this so I'm just winging it. With the shaped piece it does kinda have a little recess it can go into. That might make it tougher to smooth later. With cutting a rectangle it might be a little harder to hold it in place as I begin to weld, even with a magnet holding it. Like I might accidentally push it through. It is fairly straight but the door does curve just a touch. I cut the piece out of the back pillar I cut out, so it also has a little curve.

I think what you have done so far looks Bitchn'
I have been following the Rad Factory build on the Tube. I commented that he shouldn't cover up the access to the fuel pump / filter. I have a lot of respect for you guys fabricating trucks. It is much more work that I suspected. I have a POS lifted Cayenne on 32s, super fun beater rig.

I'm following them too. I was in the Facebook groups where they posted some updates. He even mentioned in the latest video how all the YouTube comments were positive and the Facebook people were mostly ripping on them.
The video where they had the body shift because they tied into the subframe I commented about my truck and showing off the strength. Gavin replied something like "Awesome you got a Touareg truck" and I replied yeah but just in progress and commented I should put up a recent short showing how it's coming. Check comments an hour later and my little self promotion comment was deleted. That kinda irked me and I deleted all my Facebook comments promoting them and deleted that YouTube comment.
The most recent video with them finishing the cab it really came out great looking. It was questionable with the amount of filler used and how warped the rear wall was. I hope to do a little bit more metal shaping so I use less filler.
The platform does really well. I was a VW service writer when they came out in 2004. Thought they were cool but kinda disliked them for all the trouble the early ones had at first. Lots of service bulletins and updates. I'm glad I bought one. Very capable stock.
Enjoy that Cayenne you got !

So I wanted to clean out where I had the stock seats sitting (my bus) plus driving it around sitting on a little work platform isn't easy.
So in goes the drivers seat. Plug in connections, no movement. Rough with it some yesterday and today. Still no luck, but in messing around some trying to jump power connections I unknowingly did raise the seat some and the seat back some, so it's slightly better than before.
Check fuses, scan it, etc. no luck.
Grab the passenger seat, plug it in. Boom it works immediately. Still nothing drivers side. At least it's fully bolted in just in case I get the urge for a longer test drive.

A little treat to help motivate me...
I've really like this Audi color for a while and it's available on a model I'd love to buy. Even seen o e around my town a couple times now.
Also I bought these wheels YEARS ago and once I realized I wasn't going to paint my other silver Touareg a different color, I've tried selling them with no luck. Close one time buyer that's another story. Wait no TWO close sales both interesting stories.

My brains been thinking overtime on how to finish the cab area and kinda thought off something new. Well not new in automotive terms but a new idea for me. Chevy Avalanche-esque panel rear wall.
Reinforce and build the roof area with two drop downs to the floor fixed. Then a half panel wall that can be removed, and a window wall.
What got me thinking was the fight with the drivers seat. It hinges back because the battery is underneath. And with the quick piece I put in the it made it impossible to tilt all the way. And getting the back bolts in would be tough

A little work in this afternoon. I had been researching different cutting tools in an attempt to get a better cut. Ended up the same as the other side with a angle grinder.
Equal parts better and worse.
Picture upload has been finicky last couple of days but, I have pictures on Instagram.

As for the tools I might end up buying a Milwaukee Hackzall.
Google / Amazon searching for auto body panel cutting come back with 99% of Low vibration pneumatic reciprocating saws. Problem is I don't have a huge compressor and would prefer a cordless or corded tool over air.
The Milwaukee is a small reciprocating saw so it might fit the bill. Other choice would be like a scroll saw, but they have a little weight to them. A good fine tooth blade might work well.
I might be interested in the wheels... details??? Pics?

A little progress today.
Found a broken power wire. Seat kinda works, forward and backwards something is jammed or if two motors one isn't working
Cut the giant muffler off and a trim piece, where the lower also cut bumper would have mounted.
Got my paint in late and tried a quick patch. Can't wait to see it in the full sunlight tomorrow.

So it shows two cats in the parts diagram. The primary are off the exhaust manifold and where the O2 sensors are so, after that who cares...
