Here is my 130 mile return trip from Columbus today average. They say these will improve when they break in so I am one happy boy. BTW the 1000 is the odometer.

Steve, check that computer read-out against the calculated mileage using your gas receipts. My MINI computer is always optimistic by a couple of MPG,and so were a couple of Dodges I had as company cars, too.

I am working on doing a few tanks before I post a result. I was still happy with the dash readings. It seems to be pretty good, still have 2/3 of my third tank in it at 1050 miles.

2011 Elantra 1500 miles

No it will not be lowered before you guys say anything, I carry too many large families to lose ride height

OK time for an update, the Elantra hit 7000 miles today, drove to Bowling Green with a disabled client and her wheelchair in the trunk which was closed. I also had two bags and a jump starter along with other miscellaneous crap.

This car has been wonderful and averages about 41 mpg per tank. I am more than happy.

7,000 miles and you've had the car for about 6 weeks. Dude, that is 1,166 miles per week. At 52 weeks that is 60k per year! Five years will have you at 300k.
I will be watching intently, this should be a good example of reliability and durability considering that you are putting on 4 times the national average of miles per year.

John, it's been a slow month.

Update at 3 months, now with 16.5K on it, not a single problem so far, getting a solid 40mpg, manual is fun, brakes and steering are amazing, power is adequate. Even the interior is standing up to the multiple passengers I allow entry into the lil terror.

Dangit! Local dealer tells me that manuals are essentially unavailable, making up 2% of production (which sounds like a pack of lies), and that dealers get what they get with no ability to order to spec.

Glad to hear evidence of a manual in the wild...

Cool. I'm glad to hear you like it. One of these might be my first car post-getting a good job.

I will be following this intently. Hyundai is making some very good cars - good to have a first-hand ownership experience.

The service manuals are online. Try www.hmaservice.com It's helped me with my Elantra Touring

2% IS ABout normal. Honda/Acura has been doing that since ~2001.

Whoops sorry

Yeah, finding my Elantra Touring with a manual and color I wanted was difficult. Had to go out of state. I didn't care what other options came with it.

For G's and G's, I searched Autotrader for new, 2011-12, manual Elantras; there are ZERO within 200 miles of Atlanta.

Pushing the limit to 500 miles reveals ten with a couple closer to 600 miles away. Good thing I'm not looking for a new car right now.

Interesting (I'm in Atlanta area). I bought my car in Raleigh, NC, in May. When I was looking, there were only a few in Atlanta area, not the colors I wanted. Apparently they've been sold.

Next closest, at the time, was Gary , IN.

I'll add to the good reviews of the Elantra.

I purchased a GLS with the auto in May. I wanted the manual, but no one had one around here, and the deal I got with my trade was one I couldn't pass up. I also wanted the Bluetooth which wasn't available with the stick

Since early May, I'm at 8500 miles with no issues, Just regular maintenance.

My average since new is 34.3 MPG and my best tank was 37.8 mpg. That is a mix of city and highway.

I find that once speeds get above 72-73mph the economy drops off quickly.

19K, still running great, no problems whatsoever, gets over 40mpg every tank.

This is well built for a car that feels like a toy when you do an oil change.

I might just attend an autocross at Ft Wayne on Sunday.

Now at 25K and no issues at all, loving the car more every day
