I wasn't really looking for another project, but I couldn't say no. I've always had a soft spot for aircooled VW's. The guy I bought it from installed a new wiring harness but never finished. It's got a 1500 that was supposedly recently rebuilt, but it doesn't turn over. I suspect the exhaust was left open and water got into one of the cylinders. I'm hoping I can free it up and make it run. Other than that, it is super solid and rust free, plus it's got a ton of new parts.
I've always, always loved Baja bugs.

Ooooh. Been thinking of one of them, so interested to see how this goes. A regular bug is totally boring to me, but a Baja looks like fun.

I grew up with a few friends that owned them. Mild to wild, they were all a blast to drive and were more capable off-road than they should have been. Light, RWD, and rear engine is just an awesome combo in the dirt.
I love the Dirt Every Day episode with the Baja Bugs. They look fun.
Update on the project, I have been soaking the cylinders in Marvel Mystery Oil, and I have gotten the crank turning. The problem is it only goes about a half turn then stops, I'm hoping that more soaking will get them all the way freed up. The previous owner installed a new wiring harness and got about half way done, so now I'm trying to get that all sorted out.

Project update, pulled the heads today. It looks like it's time for new pistons and cylinders.
