Missing title form, bill of sale, statement of facts and $22.00 mailed to CA DMV this morning.

Hope to have some sort of answer from them around March.

When I had to register my car last Sept. I had to go to AAA to register it as I was driving back to NH 9/30 and could not wait any longer for the DMV to process my check etc (sent in July). AAA told me that the DMV was at minimum 6 months behind processing due to the covid.

I hope you get a response before March as I bet you cannot get that service from AAA. Best of luck!

Registering it as a VW, a Bradley, or a component built specialty vehicle?

In CA you can do some DMV stuff at your local AAA if you are a member. It is so damn convenient I could not believe it. I was staying on Hotel Circle in SD for a good part of the summer and I had to drive across the 8 to the nearest AAA office...about 3/4mi.

I could not do that in NH (where I normally live). I found out about it trying to figure out how to rereg my car before I had to drive back east. Raised an eyebrow when I read it and was astounded when it worked. I had to go get cash and it was maybe $25-50 more than I had paid previously but dang it was worth it. Took about 10 mins total.

FWIW- my AAA is out of Northern New England but still the same club.

EDIT: I though I was going to have to do the Coronaball Run to NH unregistered.

The AAA in California  is a real DMV office and does not charge anything extra ,

they are hooked up to DMV computers and can give you plates and tags on the spot,

and before Covid they could do VIN checks .

You do have to be a member ,

Hmmm, the Cayman was $260-ish in 2020 but I think I paid ~$300 in Sept. so I figured it was an upcharge or tax...

Sorry for the hijack Richard.

Can't wait. There was a $500 Bradley on Marketplace near here earlier in the week and I was very tempted....

Shouldn't a 68 pan be a cv axle instead of swing axle?

It will be interesting to see what you do with that.

You can totally recut that gel coat and get it shiny for next to nothing. That thing will clean up nice with that and some clear coat.

I don't know how it works in the US but here in Europe, motorcycle headlamps have the same ratings as cars, so that's the easy solution for something like this. Lots of Sevens/Locosts use those kind of twin headlights.

Something like this;

Finally some good news, another $46.00 and couple of forms and I will have a fresh CA title.

So I will go ahead and get this one running properly, headlamps installed, decent seats, etc.

did you register as a VW or special construction ?

Same with AAA in NV, at least the office in Carson City that I went to more than once.

Could you drop a section of the pan under the seats for a few inches?  Got a welder??

Lotus Elise or Porsche 914 is about as low profile as it gets for seats, but they do leave something to be desired in the adjustability/comfort category.

Looks like a fun project, keep us updated!

Bradley recommended a 2" drop at the back of the seat to get the necessary head room. Some did this some did not.
