I found this rolling shell a few years ago, it was a haul but I paid a miserly $500 for a proven SCCA A sedan. It was built some 10 years before I go it and very well built at that.
I had planned on going CMC racing with it but that may have changed recently.
Anyway, I got it home in one piece, it had no engine, trans and a basic 10 bolt barely attached.
The front crossmember was found to be tweaked so it was swapped out.
It did have, a legal cage, fire extinguisher system, fully race built electrics and gauges, height adjustable jackers, a Kirkey seat, window net, fuel cell and system.
I had a 305 built to CMC2 specs, added a 9 bolt and a T5.
It took time and effort but we got it painted, sorted the brakes it is now running 4th gen front brakes and the OEM 9 bolt rear discs. I added adjustable rear control arms and panhard, then relocated the 3rd link to be acceptable under the CMC rules. I added a 36mm front sway bar and installed Konis and springs in the rear end to match the set in the front.
The car came with a factory fiberglass hood.
It needed a lot of bodywork and floor repairs from previous on/off track excursion. It had been frame straightened when purchased but the floors were very rough and the body panels all were different colors.
A lot of time was spent generally generally sorted a car that needed some TLC.
Today I drove it down the road for the 1st time, I am stoked.
Pics pending
We might have too much tire and not enough engine for that, but I shall give it the old college try.
i love the 82 z28 cars. best of the bunch.

BITCHIN CAMARO, BITCHIN CAMARO I ran over my neighbors
BITCHIN CAMARAO, BITCHIN CAMARO Now it's in all the papers.
My folks bought me a BITCHIN CAMARO with no insurance to match; So if you happen to run me down, please don't leave a scratch.
I ran over some old lady one night at the county fair; And I didn't get arrested, because my dad's the mayor.
BITCHIN CAMARO, BITCHIN CAMARO Doughnuts on your lawn...........
you know the rest.
As much as I hate GM products, I must admit that second generation Z28s look just right

We have been working on cleaning up a lot of the shop.
Tomorrow a windshield gets installed, Friday it gets the rest of the exhaust system.
Then for some track time.
Perfect. These cars will never go out of style. You heard it here first (maybe not, but you get the idea).
No, it's very healthy to want a Camaro. They encourage the hair on the back of your head to grow very long
I actually am quite fond of third gens. I like them WAY more than the 4th gens except for drive train of course. I really want to do a third gen with a nicely setup 4th gen drive train. It would be a very track rat or autocross car even if it would be outclassed by other cars. There is one here in town that has been sitting on the side of the road for a few months with a flat tire. Been thinking about knocking on their door.
CMC is a fun class if you go that way. So is American Sedan in SCCA. If you do w2w in that car, I highly recommend a better seat than the "rib breaker" Kirkey in the car. Something with shoulder support so you don't break your ribs. Everyone in the local SM class got rid of theirs after two people did some internal damage with those seats in back to back races.
