Has anyone coupled a LS engine directly to a corvette six speed eliminating the drive shaft. Want to build a mid engine car, I understand that it would be better to buy a ZF box but want to use easy to get parts. I know it will move the wheel base back. Need help if anyone has info. Thanks

Just put the T56 on the engine with a bell, swap the rear housing to the vette style. Then add diff and have enormously long drivetrain.

people shorten the torque tubes, so i'd gather you could make it as short as you want, possibly eliminating the tube altogether.

I built a car with C5 suspension and drivetrain. I shortened the torque tube by 23 inches.

I looked at eliminating the torque tube to do a mid engine build. The problem with running the manual is the shifter. I don't believe there is a way to make that work.

It is possible to bolt the engine directly to the automatic transaxle. I was thinking of doing this and going with paddle shifters. If I remember correctly the transmission is 16.5 inches long. ( I could be wrong on this. It was a long time ago.) So, basically you end up with a pretty long set up. There is a car running this set up. It's a GTP car by Mongoose Motorsports.

There is a guy on the locostusa forums that was building a car around that setup.

Edit: Here tis!

Thanks for all the input. The automatic seems it might be a good choice if it bolts directly to the engine. Otherwise I have access to a machine shop and may develop a setup. I was hoping someone already figured it out. Next step is to buy a wreck or rolling frame. Have a C5 Z06 I can take measurements from

I run with that guy at trackdays his group, 3 Balls Racing, puts on. The car is fast and watching the progression is nice. He has had several different engine combos, turbo,NA and I think he ran or planned on running a manual with some sort of air shifter. Look him up on 3balls racing site as Ken or the Headball. Good guy.
