Whats good Grass Roots Motorsports
Well I took a look at your site. I luv custom cars, any thing Mopar especially with a Hemi and like many of the V6 guys always wanted to make it a bit faster.
So I thought I stop by an share my story. I saw a bunch of your guys at Carlisle when I was on the Dodge showcase
http://youtu.be/NqxkDHOoebQ
and thought I share my story here too!
Just to provide some context this is the worlds first and only 6.1 SRT Hemi Prowler
Think a SRT 6.1 at about 2850Lbs
My car was featured at this years Chrysler nationals and Modern mopar. so you may have seen it.

Backstory
I had a Prowler for over 12 Years. Back in the day the 3.5 was pretty nice but also wanted it to be a bit more of a modern hot rod. With the modern day Hemi decided to make a move.
Now doing this swap in a Prowler is no easy task. Its pretty much a custom build took over 12 months and involves a ton of fabication, electronics and patience to make it all work. The heart of the Hemi has a bolt on Trans and the prowler Tran set up is in the rear.
The build is pretty detailed and the great folks over at Allpar put a nice article together below that walks through all of the key details of the project.

I will put some of the key build picts below and look foward to seeing my fellow mopars on the street.

Handbuilt headers and exhaust
Custom shaker hood from a Challenger
The first step was a custom trim ring.
On the picture below you will see a aluminum ring around the shaker. This set the positioning and build up area that the shaker with come through from the engine.
Then using tape the team laid out the build up outline design form the custom aluminum piece to be built, formed and attached to the hood. As you can see its slopes only leaving the top of the shaker sticking through. Very creative. See side view

Very different. I mean that in a good way. Never have been a Prowler fan, but this is something I'd like to go for a ride in. Then again, around here, you have to expect experiments to go right.
Thanks for the comments

Did Chrysler ever plan on a factory V-8 for the Prowler?
Sorry, I'm not up on ChryCo stuff.

No there was a concept called a howler. it had a magnum V8 in it. The prowler went out of production in 2002. When the hemi came out. The magnum V8 was just in some of the trucks etc, it actually weighed more than the 3.5 V6, had less Hp but more torque. The car got a bad wrap for the V6. It is pretty light like 2850 lbs so moved pretty good. Now with the SRT hemi your talking over 430Hp , 420 ft lbs or tq in a car that weights 1500 lbs less than the challenger or charger its designed for. It is a custom car so you have to drive it smart. But sure is it fun.
I owned it 12 years as a V6 before going in for the 16 month build. Its pretty fun and a dream come true project.
Would not of been easy for the Chrysler folks to build it as it was designed. The rear transaxle (vs bolt on trans) it needs is the pinch point.

Love the shaker hood!
thanks the Shaker is purpose built think about this the cars engine bay is about 40% smaller than the SRT its designed for. the grill, side panels and shaker all work together to reduce temps and allow this car to work. All functional performance. Every single mod you see has a purpose. Trying to keep a car this small cool is not easy task. We reduced temps over 25% with the shaker and there is no room for much more under the hood. Pulls cold air direct to the engine. AFR version required no air box! In person it also looks way cool!! 370 Hemi in your face. This is much less about looks its functional performance! There is little room under the hood and your doubling the performance and prowler. Note there car also weighs 1200lbs less with the same engine. Lots of enginering to make this all work
dare to compare

Pretty masterful stuff. Has this caught any attention from Chrysler corporate???
The new hood is a nice piece of metalworking for sure. The entire swap looks fantastic. Interesting car.

Is there more info specifically on the bell housing adapter? That's obviously one of the most unique parts of the swap that nobody will ever see. I'd love to see how you built it and what the design considerations were. I don't know much about the Prowler trans but I've heard that's the trickiest part of swapping in the Prowler, both for uniqueness and durability. I always liked the body, but the powertrain that came in the car was kind of meh.
While we love seeing finished work, how it's made is most of the fun around here!
Thanks for sharing!
Bryce
Did you say who built it? Those dont look like home garage pictures! Execution is 100% on this thing, it looks great!
Obviously, the rear end and tranny ratios were left stock. How well do they work with the Hemi engine? I would imagine a taller rear gear might be more satisfying on the street.
Thanks all.

Damn good lookin car man. I always thought the Prowler needed a V8. I bet it is 1,000 times more fun now! Did you do brake upgrades too or did these already have some Brembos or something? I'd pull the brakes off an SRT8 Challenger or 300C. Awesome build man.
Sweet, I never understood the whole V6 Hotrod idea, now it is a car I can understand
Very impressive! The only way it could be better would be if it could get a manual transaxle swap next.

Rear end? That makes for another interesting
Challenge for this build
Today I'm sitting on a 2900 lb car with a rear transaxle. The thing with the normal hemi car that make its stronger is the bolt on tranny takes a lot of the shock. Now with the hemi kat what I'm saying is you ease into it more not slamming it to the floor.
You don't need to the car is so much lighter than a SRT challenger or charger it is designed floor and you will spin out. Also your transferring power through a drive train to the rear that makes a big difference.
The car is also a 4 speed. vs a 5 speed so when driving agressively i do it in manual to get the best shift points.
here is a few of my drive by i have no problem
http://youtu.be/ppZ4hocc32Y
Now I have not been back to the drag strip and not sure if I have anything to prove as its the tq you have to watch. I have not problems in 1-3 gear. Its 4th gear that works like an overdrive that the thinnest on clutches with the prowler trans. So with that I'm aggressive to the point and take it to 4th manually easing into it!
Now you mentioned a custom rear. Its has never been successfully done yet on a prowler . Not sure if you have ever seen a prowler rear but not much there at all or space to play with. If you can figure out something that you can make work in this tight space and not cost over 40K I'm all ears!
Also with the modern cars you have to get all of the computers to talk perfect. The prowler today runs a stand alone computer for the trans. We actually have 3 different computers needed to run the car and I don't have issues. Again custom car!
Transaxle from a C5-C6 Corvette? You already hacked everything else to make it fit, why not? LOL And you'll have that manual transmission you've been looking for.

You guys here know your stuff.
You mean this little thing looked into it
Top prowler rear, bottom Vette.
Much different
There was only one done with a LS engine and rear.
Chip foose and lindenfelder worked on it. Major hack job but all Chevy based 100k plus .
I don't have that type of money. I'm good for now!
16 months is long enough going to enjoy it for awhile

I agree, the Corvette rear trans would work well except it's a totally different packaging setup. I was thinking more along the lines of what other longitudinal, front drive transmission was made that could take that kind of power. Audi uses a similar orientation and has made some pretty stout transmissions, but you'd obviously need to ditch the rear drive and center differential part of the AWD transmission. Something like the 6 speed manual from an Audi S4, perhaps.
Then again, might be easier to burn up transmissions and replace them once a year.
