Daily driving an E34 is a perfectly sane idea... I've had an E34 as a daily the last 2 years, and I've put on about 50k trouble-free miles. My last E34 had 312k miles before I totaled it, and my current one has 255k miles. They're perfect highway cruisers and they're still nimble enough to keep up with E36's and E46's on the track.
