After a lot of contemplation I decided not to ruin a rare car, and therefore I picked up a (sort of) dream car of mine. I, rather my GF (soon to be fiance), found a nice black 2003 Mitsubishi Evolution 8 for sale on a local Evo group. We had picked up an Evo X last year to get rid of my '11 Lancer that was in need of repair, but after primarily driving my Alltrac for the 2 years prior I couldnt get back in to a daily with pillars 3 inches thick. So she ended up getting the X and I stuck with my Celica until we found this 8.
We picked up the 8 from a guy looking to move on to a truck, he drove it maybe 10 miles a day since he moved up here from Cali. It came with a bunch of mods (listed below), but also came with some suspension issues. Since I wanted to do things right I sent it to a trusted shop to have a master bushing kit installed, along with new belts, pulleys, water pump and a general tune up on the 156k mile engine.
Some background on me, to fill in some blanks with the story. I do media at local events (Washington and Oregon State. I run a site called PNW Car Culture that keeps an up to date calendar of events for the area, along with photos of most major car shows and other events. I started this back in 2009 after i picked up my Lancer and went out to the Olympus rally. Ever since I've made sure (when I had the money to) to go to every rally type event in the Wa state area. This probably kept my love of the Evo alive, and kept me on track to where I am today.
Fast forward to last December, I shot photos at Dirtfish rally school for NW Rally Associations Inaugural Rally Sprints, and again this past April. A week after the second event we found the Evo 8, and a week from now I will be competing in my first Rallyx event.
So this will be one of the chroniclings of my Evo 8 and its rallyx career!
