Are you at the point where my suspension stuff is holding you up?  Should we look at shipping?

The rust patch-work looks great!  You definitely have a big and complicated job there.  Makes my little tube-fixes look like child's play.

Good work on finding a roll-bar that would fit too.  Pretty cool that with a little template work you nailed it.

No, I'm using the guts from my old rear struts up front for mock-up, and will put them in the rear when I get there. Mind you, I'd love to have your struts here, but for budget reasons, would like you to hang on to them for a little longer.

Once we're all free to roam, I have a big road trip planned. Down to Dusterbd's, swing by Prof Brap's, then up to you for struts, probably in one iron-butt weekend. Thank you for your generosity, but I'd like to wait for the perfect moment to arrive.

I have the same exact roll bar in Datsaniti yes Nice metal shaping. That is some serious rust repair.

Wait, didn't you need some headers or some such thing transported up to him? Surely the NEON railroad needs some parts moved between you two. Let me know if this is needed. I will, of course, do a travel thread once that magic day arrives.

Edit: Turbo parts, you say?

Yes to both! Large pile of hand-me-down unknown turbo parts have wound up in my posession from parts lots ive bought. We can arrange something.

Well talk closer to time about what all hes getting, and what all room in the truck you have.

Was that you that i have a missed Tennessee phone call?

I don't think so. You two had a thread where you were trying to arrange deliveries, and I said I'd do it, then the world went topsy turvy, and the thread died. I was considering bringing my Toyota Matrix for the road trip, but The Dodge could be pressed into action. As you said, we'll work out details when the time comes.

The windshield area:

You can see where I didn't get the radius exactly right on the top rail. That's what they make weatherstripping for.

After I snapped these shots, I slathered these areas with a thin layer of JB weld to fill any remaining pinholes.

I really didn't think I'd have anything worth posting today. We braved the supermarket this morning, and I tacked up some more on the X, allowing myself to be distracted by suspension and steering design. Basically, I held stuff up to the car and furrowed my brow. On our daily walk, I left a note offering to clear some metal out of a neighbor's yard, and this evening, he called back.

Some people might see a bunch of junk computers, but I saw box flares, center tunnels, and all manner of other things here.

The guy asked what I'd give him to which I replied I'd hate to offend him with a low offer, and asked if he had a number in mind. "Aww, you can have it" was the reply.

I brought it all home and doused it with Lysol. I'll unload and inventory my booty in a couple of days.

Our local metal guys were closed for Corona, or this would've likely cost me some scratch.

Vet move!  Sometimes I explain that I do a crazy budget race and if I use that metal on the car I can claim it as zero hit to the budget.

Loving the build so far and all the tin work.

Those black computer case things have me wondering what they actually are, those are some heavy cables coming out with DC connectors on them and the other has a bunch of receptacles and large coils inside. Are they actually old UPS's or battery back-ups? Were they heavy?

Good call.  Maybe a DIY light weight lithium ion battery.  Just don't overcharge it.  It doesn't end well in my experience.

The guy did mutter something about UPSs, but I don't know what those are, and had a mask on while loading i.e. I wasn't too chatty. Two of these were darn heavy, and yeah, maybe all of them had DC connections. I'll snap some shots when I unload, maybe you guys can help me determine what I have.

UPS = Uninterruptable Power Supply.  Which means they take in AC power, have a battery, and have a switch when the power supply goes out to keep powering equipment.  Very nice devices.

Since you are in SE MI, for the heavier duty units, I'd be interested in the guts of them.  Would come in handy for my MIL in Puerto Rico since they still have power issues.  I'd like to have  a good one for her fridge and TV.

Can you hold onto them until we can meet safely?  I'm in AA.

Ah, I missed the part of the thread that had the car move from here to TN...

When you take the cases apart, the heavy batteries will be pretty obvious.   And not knowing your power situation, if there's occasional drops, many of the bigger UPS systems are capable of running a fridge for quite a while.  You may want to hold onto one.

Photo montage? Photo montage.

This corner, under the battery was rusty, and had crash damage. Maybe you can make out the kink right in the corner. Looks like it took a hit directly on that front wheel, since this is above the LCA mount. No matter.

I once again utterly failed to hammer form a nice patch, so I ended up making it in three pieces.

None too neatly, either.

I got as far as mocking up the new cross member. That rusty thing is just jammed in there to hold it in place.

Also, got my booty unloaded.

I got two large ones, eight medium, one small, a rack, a table, a box of heavy duty drawer sliders, a crap monitor, and 2/3 of a broken attic ladder (I told the guy I'd get rid of whatever he wanted me to take). These have all been out in the weather for a couple of weeks. Anyone know how to check them/charge and not overcharge them?

And finally, there is a front suspension thread going on, as well as one asking about ball joint taper and reamers. All input is appreciated.
