Since, forever, I never fully have gotten my work area's setup. I swore that I would this go around. Large near 4 car garage, 2 fairly massive storage areas outside, 2 attic areas in the house, and a 2 bedroom apartment above the garage. Given this, I was up front that, "The garage is mine, keep stuff out of there." I still had an external shop I kept a lot of project stuff at with a buddy. This gave me some time to get everything setup and be good to go.
So, in the first week 1/2 of it was piled full of stuff that wasn't supposed to be there. I got a lot sorted, but it always had stuff here and there with no real cleared areas to use. Plus, the fact that I added a small trailer that had to be put into there did not help. It was just a little cramped.
This is some of what it has been *can tell from the background*:
Could it be worse, OH YES! Its always felt like I "had" or needed to dive into a project and the cleanup and storage of stuff was not up there. I have worked in a Diesel Mechanic shop and ran Service work for years. I could always tell where tools were stored and had a spot for it all, so its not like I didn't understand this.
All this has changed! The wife and I have spoken about adding a pad behind the garage. It has a small extension out of the rear door to pull onto as we purchased, but I could wheel out some things to put out there and give some extra room. Spoke to a couple of people and we got this pad done. Which I apparently didn't get a pic of as a bare slab. I also though I could make a little storage with the use of a portable garage.
This let the bikes move out and out of the way till I can get to those. I also wrapped up the spare engines and some other to move under.
Another big aid in all this was our friend Derek. He's been between jobs for a bit, had some contract gigs, but nothing currently. Wife made the offer to pay him to go through and help clean up. So far, we are just over 40 hours of work he has done.
Yes, it is still a mess, but MAN this is a big change so far. The tool box is maxed out, I still have stuff to put away too. It is all sorted, or dang close to it too, which was several hours alone honestly. I am awaiting a 5 drawer cart to be delivered to put away the remaining things and have a mobile unit if I work in the driveway or somewhere else I can pull it near me to work. I still have some things to get put up that I know where they will go. Also, I have some things that I have no idea where they will go.
If anything, this should show the time and effort it can take to get stuff how you want it. This would have been so much easier to go at from the start. Since that didn't happen, it takes a bit more to get here.
One of the drivers to do this too is a mill. Tom started with all this stuff, and with MotoBill asking someone to pickup the mill they have, I figured I was just the dumb enough person to grab it. So that clear corner behind the car under the TV is where it will live and the Lathe will go back over to sit near it. Hopefully, some more updates on that as I get there.
