Well, I stepped into my first BMW as an owner last weekend. By no means new to BMW's as I am a BMW tech. I acquired this gem from a member here (Ian F) who purchased it from another member here (Sonic). It was sold as is, with a few issues. I had originally planned on just fixing and selling the car, but it turns out it's in too good a shape to just let go. I think I am developing a problem as this makes vehicle number five in my fleet. This spring I will clean them all up and take a family photo haha!
So I got the issues all sorted and been driving around this weekend, and I have to say I do very much enjoy it. It is in immaculate condition. And I really love the honesty of its performance, capable of leaving trails of entertainment in the first two of the five gears. But in the end far from fast. However the part I enjoy most is just cruising. I had previously driven an friends 88 E28 M5 for several months as I was restoring it mechanically and absolutely fell in love with it (can't wait till it needs more work, though it probably won't for some time). This car is very close to it, and until I have the ability to acquire one this is a very nice place holder.

Congrats!
I wish I had been close enough to pick it up for myself. What are your future plans for it?
GAH...every time I think Ive settled on a car to make a project out of, someone posts a clean E30 coupe, and I have to reconsider everything...
If that had been around before I got Ugly, it would have been mine.
That's a nice looking car. Let me know if you decide to sell it, as I've been looking for one for a while now.

Where were you two weeks ago when someone was practically giving it away?
(kicks self again)
My wife is already mad at me for not getting it. I just didn't want more of my cash tied up in another car.

Wow!!! It's still alive and in lovely shape!
Great to see that it will continue to be in the family and in good hands.
Thanks fellas, and to it's caring past owners.
As for the plans, well it's a strange concept for me, but I think I am going to focus on drivability as a daily. The main initial priorities are as follows....
-Removed poly engine mounts for stock ones.
-Megasquirt and tune the car for better drivability (being a SuperETA bottom with is top end, it's not a perfect tune....high idle when warm, burp on tip-in throttle when cold....ect.)
-Replace rubber edge guard around both doors that has shrunk with age.
-And just lots of cleaning.
In the coming months I will be relocating living quarters to my first house as an owner, and I am set to have lots of garage space to keep all my family indoors. Until then not much will happen, as the car is in perfect condition otherwise.
Nice. Hope you have better times with it than Ian did!
Being a BMW technician I am very aware of how often it will.....'ask' for extra attention. Just comes with the territory.
