not too bad of a job, maybe a bit tedious if you have to do all three firewall panels, only one was rotten on mine

went into the garage with the intention of cleaning up. installed a front spoiler off a twin cam instead. I guess it counts as cleaning up if the spoiler was on the floor before I put it on?
also got the roll bar back in after fixing the firewall. Gonna fab up a harness bar next, just put a piece of square tube in each roll hoop for the shoulder straps
planning on doing SFI foam pour in seats, but two kits would be $1300 and I don't want to drop that right now, so I made some temporary seats out of $40 of upholstery foam from Walmart
Seats are surprisingly comfy. Sat down to test them after the spray adhesive was fully dry, ended up sitting in there for 30 minutes on my phone. They do rob some head room so the poured seats are still on the road map.
Gonna try to take it to a local show tomorrow
took it for a drive, things were going great until they weren't. Heard a mechanical sounding Pop and pulled over, the lady behind me pulled over too and said something hit her car, but it was untouched looking. Then noticed the firewall was smoking where the cable pass through was. It started actual putting off flames but I was able to use my element road flare type extinguisher to mostly put it out, but it was still smoldering so I had to call 911 (they took several minutes to pick up, kinda pissed) and the fire department came out and put just enough water on it to put it out. They were kind enough to plug my intake as well, before they hit it with the hose. The noise makes me think mechanical but the fire says electrical. Will have to do a autopsy later. I'm just glad it didn't burn all the way down as i don't have it insured for all the money I have in it
A few people stopped before the fire department got there, but none had extinguishers. Amazes me that people with big tow rigs and expensive machinery don't have a fire bottle on them

Fist sized hole in the block. Haven't investigated much past that, figure an oiling problem since I was well below redline when it happened
It's gonna be a while until I grab a new engine, (got other places that $3500 could be used more effectively) but when I do, I think I'm gonna put in a dry sump system, to avoid any further oiling issues. I already have the custom pan and baffles to prevent but I want to be completely sure.
would have been nice to have one of these before the fire.
for the shallow baffled oil pan, they have you fill 1/3 quart over the sight glass. it's still got oil which rules out me forgetting to add some or something like that. Interestingly, didn't lose much oil at all when the rod went on vacation. There wasn't any on the road and barely any on the car
That sucks! Are there any other street bike engines you would consider putting in there or is it GSXR1000 only?
In reply to NY Nick :
GSXR1000 would be the easiest, I've considered a hayabusa engine, but I don't really need the extra power. But a turbo hayabusa in the lotus would be one hell of a way to die lol

The rod actually broke! Damn! I would think if it was an oiling issue that it would have spun the bearing and made a bad rod knock or seized.
I have never seen a rod actually break without serious rpm.
P.s. those are some seriously expensive engines! Like $1600 for a 20 year old used motorcycle engine. Dang.
In reply to wvumtnbkr :
it was about 6k rpm, which i think doesn't quite qualify as serious RPM on an engine which is designed for 14k. I'm honestly at a loss, talking to some F1000 folks to see if they have any insight
And yeah, I ended up paying about 3k for GSXR600 motor for my F600, they're used in a few different racing series so I think there's a high demand for them especially in certain years (2008 is considered by some to be the best year for GSXR1000)
the nardi steering wheel I ordered last week came today
in other news, finally got around to weighing it, came in at 1303 with the roll bar and 6 gallons of fuel
