Whoa. Sometimes I do something in the garage and I'm like 'Man, I'm a pretty decent mechanic/fabricator'... And then I see crap like this and go back into my cave. Very excited to hear this thing.

Oh my stars and garters. This has taken an interesting turn and you're moving with shocking rapidity.
I need some of your motivation on my projects!
Very nice! This is reminiscent of the Lamborghini LM002. This looks like really well done work too, not the cobbled-together, good-enough, that's-not-going-anywhere work that takes place in my garage.

Don't worry my man, already in the works

Sand, sure. Carbide grit, glass, walnut shells, even plastic beads - but solid carbon dioxide? Huh.
Its become a very big thing recently, cleans up parts really well without worry of harming plastic, rubber, other fragile parts. It has become very popular in restoration and people preparing cars for auctions
It also doesn't make a mess, there is no residue since the dry ice just sublimates. We have used it to clean machines at work, no prep no mess, just dry ice blast and they are squeaky clean.
its also useful for mold removal in homes
Mildly pleased with progress today
Wiring is 75% complete, have to lift the body to get the other coil pack in. Not really a huge deal considering there's nothing attached to anything other than the 6 body bolts that are already loose.
Moving the intercoolers around to figure out how to run piping, have an idea.
Factory Merc shifter bolts onto HMMWV shifter hole....neat
Turbos are 90% plumbed, have to pull the mounts off to access the drain bolts which I shall do when I pull them to finish welding.
E-Brake cables
Steering shaft
6 body bolts
Lift until whatever wires you forgot to remove self uninstall
....Easy
Waiting on a couple parts to button everything up but the engine is 92.67929374% back together.
Ordered parts to make the fuel system then I can wire it up and turn the key.

By far my fav build in at least 3 or 4 years.
But he's moving sooo ssllllooowwww......
(where is the sarcasm emoji?)
Cut off the factory coolant lines and burned on some fittings
Cleaned up and painted everything...im happy with how it turned out
Picked up a new coupler plumbed for meth injection
Factory intakes make it look so pedestrian.... this shall be remedied
Ordered everything for the fuel system and parts started showing up
Haven't made a fuel system from scratch in a while, let's to the thing
Coolant system parts are ordered and still waiting on my powersteering pump so engine can be finally assembled

This is true of many builds, but yours is pretty amazing.
What a build! I hate to come off as a faboi, but if the shoe fits...
Ever since my son bought a C63 with the NA V8 my mind has been nibbling around the edges at the idea of using one of the big Mercedes vees as a donor for a project. The part of me that is realistic and grounded says "Too much trouble, and a massive tech-induced headache." But that other voice that's caused me so much trouble over the years says something different.
Best wishes and I'll be watching closely.

We'll allow be to be your enabler, these things are way less scary and involved when you actually get your hands on one they really no more complicated than anything else. As far as getting one up and running check out mercedes swap shop, Josh makes stand alone systems for all the best flavors, he's who I used for the ecu for the V12. If you want to dip your toe into the Merc V8 pool you can just pick up an M113 NA V8 for a couple hundred bucks and get to tinkering.

Thank you for that lead! I was looking at $6K standalones and thinking that was WAY out of my range.
In reply to Kreb (Forum Supporter) :
No way 6k is crazy. A m156 might cost that much though lol
Mercedes 6spd manuals from the v6 c-class/slk and crossfire will bolt right up to modern (1999+) V engines. Your 6.3 included. Not all of them will handle the power though.
