I'm always drawn to Audis but have never owned one. I respect that they're one of the last manual transmission holdouts.

Looking forward to following along and hopefully learning something about Audis as well. What are your plans for the car? Daily? Something competitive?
Check to see if it's leaking where the plastic oil filter housing mounts to the block. It's a bit of a pain as it's sandwiched between the engine block and some metal gear exchanger?

Nice car! S-Line?
Yes - exactly - 2006 Audi A4 quattro, 6 speed, S line. I understand that 2006 and 2007 S-Line packages actually mean something (as in they got the S4 suspension) but in 2008 and beyond, they were just cosmetic.
Yeah I still don't understand the differences. Our 06 A4 Quattro 2.0T is a "Red T" which has more power, but isn't an S-Line, yet the S-Line's were the same power as the standard "Black T"?
Anyways, the fronts suspension is pretty bonkers:
Yes, that's 8 control arms and 8 ball joints in the frost suspension plus a rear high-steer rack. Pretty wild!
That's not a typical failure for that motor. I wouldn't replace the oil pump without doing a compression and leakdown test first.
Audi engineers want you to take things apart to get at stuff. The job is much easier and quicker if you do.
I too have always been drawn to Audis, when ever I saw a wagon.
Edit: $1700 Central Florida.
I temper that desire with my conviction that the car has to be entirely disassembled to perform any sort of work on it.
I know it's a mild exaggeration, but it keeps me out of trouble.

I have a 2008 Passat wagon with the same engine, my oil pump failed in a spectacular manner. It seized while running and sheared the sprocket off of the driveshaft. I didn't have the time to do it myself so I paid the dealer. That one hurt.
