While waiting for a carb kit, I decided to tackle the bad tie rod end. For a nearly 80 y.o. car it went really easy. The cotter pin came out, the nut spun off, the clamp on the adjuster came loose easy, the old tie rod end separated easily with a pickle fork and it unscrewed by hand. Assembly was easy. I also broke out the grease gun and lubed up the all the zerk fittings on the steering knuckle.

I feel stupid, really stupid. What I thought was the engine firing off and dying right away, was actually the starter drive letting go. I am also going to have to pull the carb again because it still leaks in several places. I may have to replace it. A new starter drive is on order. According to the tag on the starter and google the starter was built in 1966.
