As is tradition, thread before I have it. The title is physically in my possession, but I haven't even paid for it yet.
I'm an idiot. A co-worker/friend has been playing rotating vehicle Jenga for a while now, and has this 2003 Jeep liberty with 240k on it. I, like an idiot, offered him 500$ for it. I do this regularly. I offered him 500$ for his truck, and some other cars. I don't do this because I want to own them. I do this because...I don't really know. I never expect to own these vehicles. I just throw the offer out there and never think about it, except this time.
He bit. Story goes he's owned it for 100k+ miles and has done all the maintenance himself. It's had an entirely new ac system, alternator, front suspension work, etc. I mean, it's a 16 year old liberty, but it's been maintained. V6 2wd. I offered him 500 bucks for it, knowing it's probably worth 1500 on the open market. He wanted a grand. he got a ton of lowballers and other assorted scum on CL and got sick of their E36 M3, so he's selling it to me, because he's spiteful like that. At least he didn't burn it down in his drive?
Plans for it are- clean it, maybe drive it for a while, and sell it on to swmbo's kid for a grand. (Yes, swmbo knows this is my plan. I told her the day I made the offer on the Jeep) it's convenient that this is happening right now because the Corolla puked an alternator and I'm mad at it, so it can sit outside and think about what it did. So, I'll get pics when I get a hold of it, and as I clean it. I guess the interior is disgusting because po was a pet rescuer and a smoker, and has kids. This should be hazmat worthy.

Now all that CL scum can be yours when you put it up for sale asking $1,500.
But, this could be a good exercise is how a better ad or better vehicle presentation can make a $1k difference.
Random lowball offers are how I nearly owned the world's worst supercharged Olds LSS. It's a dangerous practice.

Is there a gambler in Florida? Might be worth testing it out there, for science, before selling it to the spawn.
Paint it like that. Write off as uisness expense
Then sell $10 raffle tickets. Los.... WINNER takes tge pos home.
You can probably pay for it 3x over that way.....

Im gonna clean the hell out of it and either drive it, sell it to swmbo's kid, or trade it for something I do want.

Trust me, that thought has crossed my mind.
Think before you act? Wait, is that the recommended way of doing things? Dang, no wonder I make so many bad decisions.

Yeah, that whole acting impulsive thing has cost me more than I'll ever be able to recover.
In reply to Stampie :
A Jeep and a liberty are vastly different things.

Yes, apparently Mndsm...(I know, you meant the gambler rally).
The one thing in his favor may be timing. He has about 2-months to get it cleaned up in time to flip it during tax season.

False. A Liberty is a Jeep. The Compass is a Jeep, too. Wranglers are Jeeps, but people often incorrectly consider them the only Jeep.
Remember the Jeepster- are you saying that isn't a real Jeep, either?

Also, I never said it was a GOOD Jeep. Anyhow. Owner paid, I have the title, currently drinking beers before a pennywise sjow. Tomorrow, I have an appointment with the Osceola county plate office and I get plates and maybe I drive it home.
Ok: so you got yourself a girlie Jeep. I would have snagged it too for that price.
Acceptable bumper stickers
Summit racing
Nra freedom
Keep honking I'm reloading
Trump 2020
Girlie stickers
Love animals, don't eat them
Practice random acts of kindness and senseless beauty
I heart my peek a poo
Seriously - cool little mini Gwagen.

I have one i got for free with a dead cylinder. I pulled the motor out and apart and stopped. I kinda wanna do a 4.7 swap into it but that's a motor people actually want (to keep their old Rams running etc) so there aren't enough near-free ones littering the ground to make my idea work without a lot of effort. And effort, that's the one thing im short of right now.

Someone remind me to never buy another Florida car. Titling the damn thing cost me almost as much as it did, given I had to buy a new plate for it, and apparently those are expensive here.

The good thing is that's a one and done deal. I think at one point I had six vehicles tagged so I can always go back up to six. If I go to seven they hit me again.

Every time I think of cheap old Jeeps I remind myself of the... Patriot? that someone here bought for cheap, put money into fixing, and it wound up needing a subframe replaced or something like that. But for a beater, $500 seems like the right amount of depreciation if it runs for >12-24 months :P
Florida baby, no subframe rust. Paint is shot.
