Ever since Gregor Halenda posted about his fan collection over on Garage Journal in his mega mid century house thread, I've been drawn to vintage fans, particularly the cast aluminium ones. I googled the model number - Brass blades?
Link?
This thread is huge. Good luck finding them?

It's well worth reading the whole thing though!
As a big fan (sticking with the theme) of midcenturty architecture, I plan on reading the entire thread!

If we're posting photos of our cool fans, here's my Vornado fan table. I don't know when it's from, but some stuff online suggests 1950s. It works great and we use it in our basement. Yes the fan portion tilts so you can either point it straight up for 360-degree ventilation or tilt it to aim it at yourself. It doesn't swivel, only tilt.

I will happily accept this as an Fans Only thread.
We've had this fan for years. I don't remember where we got it nor do I know anything about it. But I love it and it works great!

There's a spin-off thread titled something like "damn you Gregor" where people post stuff they bought because of that thread.

This is the Emerson fan we have in the office at Eclectic Motorworks.

I like the base and it mimicking the blades. Solid design there
Estate sales are interesting. My ex's parents went to them often and she and I tagged along to a few. It's fun to buy an old shovel for $2 because everyone else there already has a dozen of them. Her father would occasionally score some amazing deals - like a Delta 12" cabinet bandsaw for $25. Nobody else bid on it... and then her parents showed up one day and dropped it off in her garage - he already had one at each shop and didn't need it, but the price was too good to pass up. We spent more on the mobile base so we could roll it into the driveway whenever we needed to use it.
Her parents also filled two houses and a typical PA farm-sized barn with tons of auction stuff. After her father passed away, I heard her brother pretty much emptied out the barn of anything he didn't want - which was a lot.

I don't see anything obviously broken.
Did it let the magic smoke out?

No, i was gonna clean it so it wasnt dropping stuff everywhere, a d had new grease.
And I got carried away.
Anyways, what color should I paint this sucker? Traditionally they were black, but a while back I did some machinist's lamps in "sage green" that I really liked how they turned out.
Any other suggestions for fan colors?

Oh, also. If you guys embark upon this journey.
To remove the stator out of the G.E. 75423 fan case: install longer screws into the retaining screw positions. Gently tap those screws with a hammer. You may eventually need a vise to rest the case on as you drive the stator out, but I was able to hold the case in my hand and tap the stator out.

I think any art deco color would be cool. Maybe match Rosie?
The sage green is definitely an old office color.
Only on GRM will you find a build thread for a desk fan alongside a thread about someone's latest racecar...
When I was a kid, I bought an 8" desk fan that was way cooler than I deserved. It was like $5 at a yard sale, ran like a champ. Gloss dove grey paint, silver fan blades and grille.
I miss that fan.

As much as I like her color, its a lot.
Also, I feel it would clash

Anyone have any thoughts on how to straighten (rounden?) this kink in the cage?
Was thinking about finding a steel pipe and using that as a kind of form, like brake lines
Wonder if he had a shutter speed tester somewhere in there. I've a few old cameras that need some adjusting back into spec, and the parts to make my own with an Arduino are hard to come by since said Arduino board is no longer available and no replacement is on the market.
I'd have been all over a lot of that stuff, especially the photography bits. Still need a monitor for my C64 as well, but never get a chance to go looking at estate sales.
Maybe I can get lucky and score one of those fancy Hasselblad film scanners for cheap (yeah right!).
Y'all losing your E36 M3 over the old fan, meanwhile I'm over here drooling over all the 8-bit Atari computer gear.

Not in love with the fan blades being the same color as everything else. Gonna need to think on that one.
Also need to plan how to paint the cage.
But... I like.

I've been thinking of ways to get brass fan blades.
Maybe I don't, maybe I pin-stripe adhesive and do brass leaf? Price is acceptable.
Not to derail the fan thread, but I am EXTREMELY disappointed that there are no Intellivision consoles in that one room.
