After 8 years of Mazda5 ownership, I needed something bigger for our four kids. I like vans and wagons and hate SUV's and wanted six seats, not seven. A bunch of sleuthing got me to the updated 13+ Ford Flex, and if I was getting one I wanted the 365 HP twin turbo EcoBoost with AWD. So I bought one:

It's a 2013 Limited with everything including a fridge for $11,500. This is the most expensive car I've ever owned, and the newest relative year. With 113k miles, it should provide literal service for the rest of their childhoods.

It's not that much bigger than the 5, it's just a lot more squared off. We immediately went to IKEA and bought a jurglnurgleheinmin and didn't even need to fold the second row!

It is longer. It also has a factory towing package with integrated trailer brake and sway controllers and beefed up cooling.

I love the color combo and it's the only silver roof I've seen. Most of them are body color or black and I've seen a couple of white roofs. Yes, I'm rolling on 20's!

What's next for the Boost Wagon? Why take it drag racing of course, duh! I'm going to mod it until it goes 12's.

That is my favorite color combo!

Two months ago I came really close to updating my wife's 2010 Mazda5 with a 2016 Lincoln MKT Ecoboost (the other Ford Flex.)

Silver roof.

If my research was correct, in the first few years they offered a white roof option. In the later years that became a sliver or black option. If black then you got black wheels too. I really don't like black wheels and in general the fade has been played out.

I hate to break it to you, but that's an SUV.

In reply to Javelin :

Could you give me a spotter's guide to the tow package?  Other than having a hitch, what does the factory wiring connector look like at the hitch?

I would like to have one with tow package but when shopping used it is hard to tell what constitutes the factory package over just someone putting on an aftermarket hitch.

SUV's have a frame and a transfer case. Crossovers are cars on stilts. This my friend, this, is a wagon. A good old fashioned unibody station wagon.

In the gauge cluster will be the options for setting the trailer brakes and anti sway. Will get you full photos of everything today.

I like it. If it were mine, I would look for some Mustang Buillet wheels and get some raised white letter tires.

That is my favorite body style and favorite color of the Flex. There's one that parks behind my local fedex office that is the same blue but with a black roof. I've checked it out many times.

Shady used car lot is doing shady things. My credit union is holding their feet to the fire. I have bad feeling about the back end of this.

Fwiw, I paid $11,500 plus tax, tag, and title.

Here's the original window sticker:

Yes, that does say $52,030.00!

I had the window sticker to my 1996 Buick Roadmaster and I think it was on the order of $32k! In 1996! For a Buick!! Nobody paid $32k for a Roadmaster in 1996 just like nobody paid $52k for a Flex in 2013. I hope.

I have a 2013 Sho. You will love the 3.5 ecoboost. Mine has 193k and still going strong. And it's faster than my wife's mustang GT.

It was a demo car for the first 9 months of it's life for a Ford sales rep.

I'll echo all the other sentiments. Perfect color combo and options. Several years ago at the drag strip we saw a guy running near 14 flat in the quarter with just a tune.

I have customer with two of these, one an EB and one not.  I'll take your word that it's about the same size as a Mazda5, as those things just feel enormous.

Pretty color. I didn’t know nice ones with awd and the big turbo engine were that cheap yet.

Neither did the car lot. I stole it at the price I paid.
