Are stock 96-98 Cobra cams an upgrade or the same as the Mark VIII cams? Might could find some of those for a cheap upgrade if they are different.

In reply to untchabl :

They are an upgrade but this a challenge car and the $200 extra to get the Cobra cams is better used elsewhere, I think.

Might have a buddy that has some 4V valvetrain stuff.  Want me to ask?

Sure, I am currently planning on getting the $125 set in Saturday but if you come up with a better deal or better cams for similar money, I'm totally interested.

Firewall is trimmed down to the rough, final shape. Acquired tubing for a cage. I need to figure out what my next step is.

Install engine+trans, build cage, drive that death mobile with a Rosebud theme at the challenge by painting the firewall red and only saying "rosebud" like some wierd citizen Kane Groot mashup.

Will also accept a Calvin and Hobbes theme where you strap a stuffed tiger behind you.

Yeah, Calvin is a lot more my brand than Citizen Kane.

Death cart is the safety school of the build. I am going to build the cage to fit the Starlet body though.

So for now, I am back to the 2v. It is back in the chassis with the flywheel installed. Manual transmission will go in this week along with the cut down driveshaft, I hope. Then I will get it running to drive onto the trailer for cage work. Once we get there, I may have the confidence to actually buy my GRM entry.

I have to hand it to you for both the vision and the ability to follow it up. I would never have considered this particular combination.

The KP61 Starlet is considered one of the ultimate classic oval race cars over here in the UK, much of my teenage years were spent watching people like George Polley in his Starlet. Admittedly they ran 13" wheels (10"+ wide) but the bodywork wasn't a long way off what you are proposing. I don't know how Google handles searches in different geographical locations, but  if you do an image search for "starlet hot rod" or George Polley Starlet you'll see what I mean...

Very cool. I have seen the wide body kits before but George's car is really neat.

Thanks! The BDT has been a great support group on this build. Just when I needed some motivation, they would troll me until I managed to make progress!

Cage bending die is three weeks out front shipping. Crap. Trying to find another compatible one.

I have seen people bend cages with oak blocks cut and routed into the proper shape.  They usually start to crack two or three bends in and become unusable about half a dozen in, but it can be done.

That is a 65 Galaxie convertible that has run in years. I need to get back to it but a cruiser has been all that high on my priority list for a while so it has just been sitting.

I am to the point where I want to see if I can get it running. This is already not going well. I am overwhelmed and not even sure where to begin. The HP Tuner is getting power at the OBD2 port but doesn't receive any signals. The engine won't crank. I haven't hot wired the starter yet as that isn't really the main issue here. Anyone have any suggestions on how to go about such a thing? Such as what all needs to be hooked up to get the basic engine connections made. I am probably going to start a new thread about this too.

'65s are cool, I've had a couple of hardtops in the past. Had a couple of Starlets too come to think of it...

Look forward to seeing this come together, it'll be like a roller skate when it's done. Good luck with the wiring!
