Well the last time ended poorly with the $750 truck needing an estimated $5K in repairs! Next!
Two weekends ago, I was home visiting my boys and a little cruising Kijiji, netted a possible truck. I went to see it, took a good look and made an offer. Owner counter offered and we made a deal. I went back the next day, looked over some more and paid the man in cash.
I told him, I would return the next weekend to pick up the truck. I left with the keys and ownership. Transferred the truck, and picked up a Temp sticker.
Here it is:
2001 Chev 1500 HD 4X4 Crew Cab - not sure why Chevy called it a 1500HD, as it's pretty much a 3/4 ton underneath. 6.0L, 4L80E - all the good stuff! It even has leather.
Had to go through the semi-traumatic experience of renting from U-Haul. Hooked up the trusty Golf and headed to my apartment. Averaged 16.5 MPG of those mighty Imperial Gallons and around 450km later arrived back.
Next day at 5 am departed to work our local Rally-X, as soon as they saw the truck, I was put to work with the "drag", to maintain the course:
It threw a CEL when doing the hauling in 4Low and running slow. I reset it and it's stayed clear since.
Bonuses:
- It actually has rockers and cab corners!
- One of the POs upgraded most of the lights to LEDs and put an 18" LED light bar on the top of the bumper (does it ever light up the night!
- Only has 247k kms (about 150k miles for our Southern friends)
- Paid under $3k CAD for it!
- It came with a bunch of extras, including towing mirrors and a Superchips tuner (that's what I used to clear the code).
I be happy!
