So I bought a little tykes truck that someone did a Horrid job painting. Thought I'd clean it up to look like my truck for my 2 year old son.
starting point.
I got a little excited and took it apart forgetting to take pictures. So here it is apart, sanded, and primed.
Thus ends the first day. two coats of paint on it. the metallic rustoleum was waaay full of glitter and created a freaking mess when you are spraying it. I also got a ton of pin holes despite using rustoleum primer and sanding with 600 grit between primer and paint.
My son had to play with it last night so
I was home today thanks to a complete lack of work. So I picked up two more cans of blue and some clear.
I went at the truck again with it apart and made a heavier coat (two more times.) I also sanded it after the paint had cured for a few hours. Wiped it down and then did two coats of clear.
Of course Charles had to play with it again when he got home.
Still to come. some black accents, the grill gets chromed.
I need to find a way to add "mirrors" I might even paint the tail lights red to make them look real. I have some rustoleum hammered that I might "bed liner" the bed with.
I also need to paint or plastidip the wheels to fix the PO work. I'm going to plastidip the steering wheel to make it feel tacky like a real wheel. I also need to see if I can get a new "gas cap" and some caps for the screws. Charles had to "help daddy" while I was taking it apart, so he put them all in the bin I had for keeping them togehter. I looked back later and he had two in his hands and a few more missing as he was trying to put the parts back together for me.
This is awesome. We have my little red car in the garage somewhere. I would play for hours in it back in the day. That and my hotwheels obsession was what kick-started my love for cars.
That's a really cool truck! I'll bet the little guy will have a lot of fun with it.
