Well this is pretty sweet! And Alabama is about as close to Florida as I could hope for a National Championship!

There has been a bit of chatter about big things coming to the Firm next season. They've been doing a lot of work on their rally stages through the woods of the property and I'm hearing the words "rally sprint" being used. Also, my utv racer buddy told me he's working with the Firm staff on setting up some wheel-to-wheel utv racing on the Nitro course and some endurance races through the rally stages. All of these things sound really awesome to me! Glad I'm spending a bit of time on fine tuning the YXZ!
Also, the first official Corolla Cup event has been scheduled - January 6th autocross at Sebring, hosted by the Gold Coast PCA. It'll be interesting to see a bunch of Corollas out there running with Porsches. I wonder how many we can beat! lol.
Any idea how likely the rally sprints are at the firm? The nitro course is fun but I am interested in some faster speeds on dirt.

I don't know enough to say it's for sure, but past conversations and recent posts by the Firm guys has me about 90% sure there's a rallysprint coming in 2024. I'm curious if they'll organize it themselves or use one of the sanctioning bodies.
At the beginning of the year, I decided to document the motorsports events I attend (either participating or just spectating). It seems to be an even more significant number than I would've guessed. It sure helps that my wife enjoys going to these events as well. I think making the list is something I'll continue to do in the future.

I'll bet 30% of Pork slower than best Corolla.
I think it'll be closer to 50% or better. A lot of the P club members are pretty mediocre/timid drivers.
A few months back, someone posted an aerial of a defunct go kart track near Polk City, FL in one of my FB groups. I decided to take a look today. The track was abandoned around 2000 and its since been turned into a walking trail/nature preserve. Sounds like it used to be a driving/karting school and the several people who chimed in on FB said they really enjoyed the facility and the training they received there.
The shape of the original course is preserved by where they mow for the walking trails but very little evidence of the track exists. There are a few small asphalt patches that remain but, even as a racer, I wouldn’t know it used to be a track by what’s left. Kind of a bummer but still very cool! Definitely a good sized track. Looks like it would’ve been a lot of fun! Would be a blast in some off road carts at this point!
Well, I wasn't actively looking for a 914, but I do enough occasional fb searches to know a good looking deal when I see one. Rustybugkiller posted a link for a rust-free runner Here and it caught my attention. I traded some phone calls with the seller and it should be on a transporter to me later this week or next. The seller says he's a 70 year old veteran of the air cooled vw/porsche world. He says he's selling a few of his cars to downsize and get into a 912e. He swears the 914 is totally rust free and runs great. He said it has a low quality re-spray but that doesn't bother me. I'm hoping he's an honest guy. Communication has been excellent and the $5k price tag seems very good from what I can tell. Its a 1970 with a 1.7 single carb setup.
the 914 I inherited from my dad has some rust in various places and it doesn't run, both of those details kept my motivation low to get started on it. This new car is exciting because i can enjoy it right off the bat and tinker slowly. I intend to pull some of the cool stuff off Dads car and put it on the new one - 5 lug suspension, 16" Fuchs and fiberglass flares.
Previously, I was considering a Honda K swap on my dads car, but the new clean shell has me leaning more toward putting in the Porsche flat 6 that my Dad intended to go in, and maintain the Porsche pedigree. Either way, an engine swap is a ways out. I want to drive it as-is for a bit. I'm excited! Pics from the seller:
I still don't have the car. But I've bought an engine. What's wrong with me? Keep your eyes out for a 986 Boxster S 6-speed at a good price. :)
just for the record. 86172 miles
*edit - the salvage yard took my deposit before realizing they had sold the engine already. Refund issued. It was a bit premature anyway.
In reply to Lof8 - Andy :
Im allllll about this. I LOVE 914s and have always dreamt about putting a a K in one. Cant wait to follow along man.

the engine swap plans are hopefully a ways off. But I think a K in front of a modern transaxle will be the hot ticket!
new meats and rear brakes on the ol track tank.
I did some shuffling to prepare for the new car arrival. Looks like the trunk was Dads parts storage bin. Lol! The cable to the front trunk is siezed up. Im curious to find what treasures are hiding there.
this was dads rig to test the 6 cylinder
I inquired with renegade hybrids about their Boxster s trans mounts and their response hinted that they might have a whole mounting kit for Honda K engines.
I picked up a 68,000 mile 2001 Boxster s trans for $900. Not the one pictured below, mated to a k24 :)
So, I'm debating between a K20 from an Acura RSX type S and a K24 from a TSX. Both are rated at 200 hp, K24 is cheaper (can be found for $1k), has a bit more torque, but lower redline. K20 is 1" lower height and 25 lbs lighter, but costs about $2000.
Anyone with honda engine knowledge care to share input?

I am sure there are others here that are better to speak to this, but I've been educated before and since forgot...but I have a project that I want to use a "k-series" and there is a recipe to use the head from one on the bottom end from another to build the best all around setup....I THINK, it is putting the k24 head on a k20, which if you are planning to build the bottom and top end, that might help with paying full price for the k20
Also, as a cayman owner, I love the idea of building a hot rod 914, beit a 914-6 or 914-k
In reply to fouckhest :
The frankenstein recipe is the higher flowing k20 head on the higher displacement k24 bottom end. That would be sweet, and definitely something to consider down the road. But for initial swaps, I like keeping the engine all stock to minimize variables.

Got it! I had a 50/50 chance of getting that right....your approach is identical to my plan for my project, stock engine, get it running on stand alone then build whatever it might be.
Looking forward to following along
