Why not make it an on-topic thread?? lol
I am opening an R/C ractrack, and wanted to update the most-boring bathroom ever to something more appropriate and interesting.
It is a rented shop, so can't spend too much here.
It had an ugly sheet vinyl floor that I figured I could just pull up. But alas, nothing is ever easy is it? And it turned out under it was some heavy-duty vinyl tiles glued down with perma-glue it seems. After trying a few things, I had to get out the air chisel and take it out 1/2 inch pieces at a time, but it worked.
So I got it all back together and functional, what to do with the boring walls?
Now bathrooms generally are supposed to be calming, this color is just the opposite!
You will notice the tool cabinet under the sink..
I was trying to come up with a plan for the sink. Using a toolbox seemed a great idea, but I was having trouble finding them cheap enough.
So was thinking of using one of my Willys grills/hood because why not?
But I ended up find some cheapish tool boxes, and bought both for $80. It turned out the black one didn't quite fit right, and the red one did, and fit the red walls,
so I sold the black one for $75, so just $5 for the red toolbox.
So next up was to put in the checkered pattern above the lower wall. Marked it out a 8inch grid with a sharpie.
Then I filled in the black squares with a foam brush pushing the paint to the edge. This was very time consuming.
Tape just didn't stick to the wall with the gloss white paint and the rough texture.
Then I cut out some text from one of my old vinyl signs and glued the pieces to the wall.
So frustrating that my stuff is still in boxes and unorganized, had to search all over to find my spray glue, as I KNOW I had some and don't want to go the store if possible.
But found it. And now it just about done:
Looks good. I'm also in the middle of a bathroom/basement remodel. Yours looks way cooler than mine.
I went to the Dollar store and bought 6 10x8 picture frames. Put some magazine covers in them and screwed them into the walls. :)
You need a rack of GRM back-issues next to the throne.
Next up was to do something with the boring mirror. I came up with putting flames on it. Removing the back coating and painting there.
It took a lot of tried to get looking ok, way too much time. It looks ok from a distance, but not up close, so I had to come up with Plan B.
It also cracked the glass.
So Plan B was to put on some diamond plate wallpaper along the edges to hide the flames (and the crack).
And I added the Camaro rear panel section from my Mazdamaro parts. I'm pretty happy how it turned out.
Pretty much done now, the last big project was the towel dispenser. Anyone think there is a market for these? for like $1,000 lol.
Of course, I can't stop now, and have some shift knobs to replace the sink faucet knobs, but that is it. nothing else. done.
And for the finishing touch, I replace the faucet handles with pistons.
