From looking at Jim’s 88 that still didn’t gain ver much. I think he had less than -2* per side, and it was nowhere near enough.

After spending 3 hours mowing the lawn and another 1.5 hours building a new compost container, I got to spend a little time in the garage.  Removed AC compressor and PS fluid reservoir and cooler, then continued disconnecting and labeling electrical connectors.  Here’s where we stand:

Yeah, I know, it doesn’t look a whole lot different, but I am definitely making progress.  Garage is pretty much a no-fly zone for Mother’s Day as we are spending the day at my in-law's, but I’ll get back to it on Monday.

I also found further evidence that this was once a Florida car:

Should try it. Lizard jerky is great.

Mama said all she wanted for Mother’s Day was to have that crappy old dead tree removed.  Challenge accepted!

Seriously though, that tree has been dead for about 7 years and has been an eyesore the whole time.  I wanted it gone more than she did!

Looks to me like she should buy you a chainsaw for Fathers Day. Or at least an axe.

Having always heard about that but never actually doing it, and you probably being the biggest redneck with a truck I know, how do you do it?

First step is to say "Here hold this" as you hand your beverage of choice to the nearest bystander. I'll tell you from experience that you want your strap as high as possible for leverage. Last time I ended up bending my hitch cause palm trees have surprising good roots.

Got home from in-laws and snuck out to the garage for a few minutes.  Disconnected shift cable from trans, and removed enough trans pan bolts to drain a good bit of ATF.  Next step will be to drop pan and dump the rest of the fluid so it doesn’t pour out during engine and trans pull.  Wednesday is payday.  Buying cherry picker with load leveler.

Dont fool yourself. There's no way to pull an automatic transmission without dumping atf everywhere. Its impossible.

Guess this confirms that I am a redneck..... we pulled down a tree last hear that was close to the house and had 2 foot thick trunks over our fence. My wife hid inside while two of my friends with tow straps and our Suburban and his big GMC applied the leverage. We cut a notch, used the trucks to stand the tree up vertically and then cut some more out so we could use the  truck to pull it away from the fence and truck. Had to do this three times, the third one was the worst, had to climb a ladder after we had weakened the tree with the first two cuts to get the straps mounted as high as possible, figured the whole tree was coming down along with me and the ladder, but it all worked out. The "hold my beverage" comment applied as well......... Now back to the car story!

Back to the car story indeed.  Goal for tonight was to pull the trans.  Goal not achieved, but i got pretty close.  Torque arm bolts are out at trans and at diff.  Both cats are off, with all three o2 sensors intact.  But to detach downpipes and cats from manifolds, you have to remove nuts from bottom of engine mounts and remove crossmember diagonal support brackets.  After getting both downpipes and cats off, I had had enough for one night.

Tomorrow I trade labor for scrap steel tubing.  Friday I pull the friggin’ Trans!

Can confirm, a chain about half way up a 12-15' pine tree that was grown right up on the house and a couple good tugs with the ol' f250 did it in, roots and all. didnt want to try to get through all the pine needles and braches to cut at it, plus it's more fun doing it with a truck.

this was the wife's view, she wasn't super excited but it got the job done.

I could really use your accessory drive set up for my LT1 into C3 conversion. The Impala set up won't clear the Vette control arms on the passenger side. Interested in a swap? I assume the swap you're doing in the Corvair could use either?

It’s been two weeks since I began removing the transmission from the C4.  Yesterday, this happened:

Followed a few hours later by this:

And finally, this:

The markings and label indicate this is a GM replacement transmission, and the sticker on the torque converter bears a late 2011 build date.

I went through a ton of disposable gloves and a container of hand cleaner getting this thing apart.  Will be picking up engine stand and cherry picker in the next couple days.  Goal will be to have C4 completely robbed of everything I need and hauled away by 6/15.
