This 1983 911 SC sat in a garage for 10 years, then my friend John asked me to help move it. It sat nest to his shop for 3-4 years when all my chatter convinced him that it's just dying a very slow painful death. Thankfully it's in my garage; as the Pinto project went south I find myself with a hole in my garage.
The mission here is to clean it up, un-mouse it, drain the gas tank, oil etc., clean the engine and get it running. It's a long list.....

White doesn't really show how dirty this car was.

After its first bath.

Quick question:
How do you work the factory wheel locks with the key? I can get the key to spin, that's it.
Finally got the wheel locks figured out, it's up on stands now in my garage, wheels off. =~ 0
After quite the wrestling match, I got the gas tank out. My order for Eastwood's Metal Wash should be here in a day or two. The fuel filter seems to be cross threaded, one end just refuses to let go of its mate. I pulled the plugs, some are rusty, all are carboned up with a huge gap. Someone replaced the AC pump along the way, that battle caused bending sheet metal and paint chips on the engine lid drip edge. I'm told the PO overfilled the crankcase, no matter, it's all coming out. Now, what to shoot into the jugs before hand cranking?
The port side of the engine looks good, the cardboard air tubes will have to be replaced, the starboard side is covered in a layer of oil. I understand the rocker studs should be changed by now, lets see where the ar ends up first .....

911 is dry sump and the oil in the tank over time seeps into the sump , then the owner checks the oil level on the dip stick and sees it out of oil or low, he then fills it , which is really overfilling it !
I pulled all the plugs and with a turkey baster and a short piece of hose put a few oz of Marvel in each cylinder and let it sit ,
then I took a large wrench and turned the front pulley nut just a little , back and forth , I did that for a week or when I was close to the car .
Finally when it would do 2 complete turns by hand , I put a little more oil in it and turned it over by the starter with the fuel pump disconnected.,
this was before the cheap Endoscopes were on Amazon , I think I would do that first if I was doing one today :)
Thanks! My friend has a scope for inspecting aircraft, have to borrow it. I did get some Marvel Mystery in each cylinder but got a lot of dripping on the floor; either it's full or I missed. Then I foolishly spent 10 minutes on the hood with a buffer. Dayum, now it's more valuable. =~ (

Excellent Dan. You going to end up with this one?
Anything happen to the no title one? I'd love to help that one drive again! Heh...
This is the no title one. I spoke with Stephen Harris as some of his cars have Montana plates. He gives a MT lawyer $100 to set up an LLC, sell the car to the LLC and get Montana paperwork, no taxes, no front plate, no history investigation and no annual inspection.
Worse case scenario, buy a wreck and VIN swap, buy a kit and use all the untitled parts? Big hurdle for now is getting my friend to decide who should have first refusal, dead guy's son or dead guy's widow/ex wife. There's time .......
Title is no longer an issue, I know this guy who knows this guy ......
Gas tank was pulled, flushed out with Eastwood Metal Wash and ready to go back in. OK, maybe I should replace this little fuel line first.

Plugs pulled, Marvel squirted in via big syringe and 1/8" tubing. Sat for 5 days and dosed it again. The other day I blocked one wheel while trying to turn the other. Wonder of wonders, it moved! That's enough, it's NOT locked up. Now more Marvel Mystery and time before doing it again. So, a Porsche question: as scoring the cylinders is a big deal, how do I prevent that? Let the MMO drip through and then fill it with 30 weight for better lubrication? Is ATF more slippery?
Thoughts and suggestions graciously accepted.
