Finally got a clutch and flywheel kit from RockAuto for my 2008 Audi A4. Been having some really bad weather here in B.C which has put a delay on the project. Anyway, finally got the bell housing clean from clutch material, started the reassembly when I went to take out the pilot bearing. Originally intended to use the bread and grease technique, but upon closer inspection I don't believe that will work. Here is a picture of the replacement one I have, the stock one installed is the exact same style.
seeing as there is a backing to that it won't just press out. Anyone have experience with this? May I need to buy a specific puller for pilot bearings? Thanks
I run a screw in a slide hammer into the hole and pop them out with the slide hammer. You could probably run a screw into the hole all the way to the bottom of the bore and keep turning after it bottoms to push it out.
We had to rent a puller to get it out. Bread, grease, mashed potatoes, wet paper towels didn't work worth damn . . . we managed to booger the hole enough that it needed a hone and a larger bearing/insert in the end.
Cool, I think first I'll try what @APEowner said, but if it won't come it's gonna be a puller.
