Holy crap that BOV is loud! LOL

I like the build videos, please keep going.

When I daily drove the Miata I thought it was a bit annoying. Now that I only drive it once or twice a month (on a good month) it is hilarious and I try to make as many fun turbo noises as possible.

I still want to figure out how to put a whoopie cushion on it so it farts every time you lift off.

That way the corner workers are laughing too hard to notice that about sixteen cones are down.

(if they didn't want the cones mowed down, they wouldn't have put them in the way)

New video is up, and we actually get some work done. The engine is pretty much ready to go in now, we have to put the flywheel, clutch and transmission on.

Easier solution is to put a duck call on the BOV. With all the throttle action in Rallycross it will be hilarious

You guys make it look easy!

Out of curiosity, what is your preferred cylinder fogging spray?

I'm not sure, Jake brought that. I think he uses Sta-Bil? If I think about it I just spray whatever kind of aerosol lubricant/oil I have handy in there.

I used to use a product called FOGGING OIL (all caps).

Today, Han taught me the ways of using license plates as measuring devices.  Both the 1 ton and 2 ton Harbor Freight engine hoists have 2.5lp long booms.  So, the difference in length is in the hoist part, not the slidey part.

Like any useful unit of measurement, the American LP is different than ROW, because we're just stubborn that way.

This shall be my new favored unit of measurement- lol!

Wait, you wanted measurement of the slidey part? I assumed boom was the fixed part. Now to find the license plate again...

In reply to EvanB :

Maybe the boom is the fixed part?  I am not a hoistologist.  But yeah, the slidey part, since that is the most transportable.

I was out in the garage this evening but forgot to measure the slidey bit.

To make up for my negligence I bought another brick tonight...

Dammit Han.

I did make measurements and was writing a lengthy post in my garage journal thread with my tablet as photos were being uploaded, when the keyboard disappeared and i pre typed on the ad at the bottom of the page and my post was lost.  So i will re write everything on the computer which has adblock.  And a real keyboard, not this little tykes BS.

False alarm, he sold it to someone else.

I shot a real lowball number that I didn't think he would accept as I didn't really need another car but 740 manual wagon. He accepted but I said I couldn't pick it up till saturday so if someone else gave him a better offer before them I wouldn't feel bad if he sold it. He just let me know that it sold.

Now I can continue concentrating on the many projects I already have.

I went into great detail in my own build thread/journal so I won't muck your thread up too much anymore.  But I did quantify the LP as 309mm, or 12 inches plus a little extra.

The slidey part on a 2 ton is 2.542lp, or 780mm, from tip to bolt.

The permanent-ish part is 2.492lp, or 770mm, from the outermost slidey-part-retainer bolt hole to the pivot.

The distance from the hydraulic ram's pivot to the boom's pivot is 1.036lp, or 320mm.

The thickness of the slidey part is about 1/5th of an LP, or 60mm.

The engine is in!

Finishing up a bit of wiring before connecting anything. The MAF wires had to be moved and we cleaned up some unnecessary clutter.

New video coming soon...

You want a spare turbo? I'm about to take my 13c off and replace it with a bigger one.  I rebuilt it ~3500 miles ago.

New video is up, we get the engine back into the car. We are a bit past this now but the next video might take a bit longer as we are in the time consuming phase of the project of finishing all the small things.

I never use Loctite, except for flywheel bolts and pressure plate bolts.  Then I use the hell out of Loctite.

VWs aren't for driving, they are for putting up on jackstands and taking apart and staring at.  That is why there is an approximately 10:1 ratio of partout threads to build threads on VWVortex.
