Congratulations on a well deserved victory. It has been quite a journey. What was Mrs. Deuce's reaction, besides the transmission service request?

You all owe the startup video to Mrs. Deuce. Not only because she shot it but because she INSISTED on shooting it. She made it very clear that she was going to be upset if I didn't do that for all of you guys. She reads the thread almost every day at work, she knows how much a real first start video would mean to you guys. She's cool.
And she's proud of me.
Dude, Mercedes should be proud of you. An amateur wrench turned mamaged to do a job they didn't want to do, do it well, and entertain america in the process. I'd say they owe you big.
So many congratulations. I would love to see this thread continue to document your further victories with the van- I want to see some roadtrips in this thing.
Also- thanks for encouraging some of us to tackle our own frightening projects. The way you've written about the project is a really nice breakdown of the simple fact that these cars we all love so much are still machines. Built by humans and able to be serviced/maintained by other humans with the proper motivation.
Kudos to you Mr. Deuce. You've earned it.
Yay!!! Congratulations! This thread has made me take a closer look at every r-series Mercedes I pass! (Suprisingly not uncommon in the suburbs of Nashville) I think the only time I have ever seen one in person it was parked next to a BMW X5M so we parked our SRT-8 Grand Cherokee next to them just to get 1,500hp worth of SUV in three parking spots
I know I'm late to the party, but congratulations on a job well done! That feeling when there's all the clattering on initial startup before the oil circulates makes your whole body go cold every single time, even when you know it's coming. Once it settled down though it sounded so very sweet!
While I haven't actually done it on mine yet, I've read through the procedure for the transmission fluid change and went out and got this fluid pump from Amazon that has the right adapters to plug in to the drain plug and pump the fluid in. The hardest part seems to be getting the car up in the air and level, but with your lift that should be trivial. There are a few kits for sale with the right fluid, new bolts, new filter, new gasket, new standpipe, and all that that make it a sub-$200 job including the fluid pump. I've got the 722.902 so I'm not sure how similar or different that would be for the van.

Thank you Mrs. Duece!
I spent all day on GRM and somehow missed that this beautiful white whale fired up? Holy crap, congrats!

Thank you, Mrs. Deuce. We eagerly await the mandatory victory-burnout video. :)

Not yet. The only code reader I have now isn't clearing codes so I don't know if it's real or just popped on startup before the oil filed the adjusters. It's running fine and seems happy, so I'm not going to try and fix the issue quite yet.

The only way I could get codes to clear was to shut the car off then go to the run position with the engine off. Then I use either my Innova or Torque to retrieve and clear the codes, shut the ignition off all the way and pull the key, then put it back in and start it up. That clears the regular codes as well as the indicators that there are STAR codes for me. It won't clear anything with the engine running, which is inconvenient.
Jeez, stay away for two days and I miss the big event. I did think of you and your project over the weekend while putting over 300 miles on my R. Does that count? Congratulations on this UUUGE milestone!

Yes! It worked! Codes cleared at they didn't show up again in the 90 I let it run. We'll see what comes back, but that was encouraging. This is why I love this place. Many thanks.
Most cars won't clear codes with the engine running. My Jeep doesn't, has to be key on, engine off to clear them.
So much awesomeness in this epic journey. Between the Grosh and the AMG, you have inspired me to take on larger DIY projects. Congratulations!
