I think GRM would be very well served to have you as a project at large editor/writer. This thread makes it pretty obvious on the benefits.
You just did an engine out service on a pretty complex beast and demystified the process for a lot of folk. Maybe a rebuild on an F355 - I'd say 360 but as I understand it they ecu is pretty well locked down - wait - stream of consciousness - rebuild a broken F360 and megasquirt it.
What about a Maserati Quattroporte? The 2003-2008-ish ones had the Ferrari engines and well...the water & oil pump is one piece and sits in the valley of the V-8. It's a bear of a procedure and due to this - they depreciate like rocks.
They sure do sound nice though...
Congratulations Mazdeuce. You truly are an inspiration to us all.

I just want you to know I'm not ignoring this idea. I like this idea. The only problem is that I've already owned two Neons. Not that I know anything about them, but.....they're not weird? I don't know, they work well, and I like them, but they don't excite me.

Although the 360 has it's own set of potentially horrifying failures, the usual cam belt change is done with the engine in place. By this time, Ferrari found a way to make scheduled big services a lot easier by providing the access to the belts and water pump through a removable panel behind the seats.
No, I still vote 355, or 348. Exotic, famous, affordable because they're needful, and more importantly, mostly analog. Just nuts and bolts, a few hoses, and a few wires. Not a lot of sensors, no crazy computer that only a dealer or high-end independent can access. I advocate for the 348. Unlike the 355, it came only as a manual transmission, manual steering, no airbags, and no electric seats and suspension settings. Also different from the 355, it has solid lifters with shims-under-bucket that you need to monkey with!
Okay, I'll stop now. No doubt, Mr. Deuce still needs to button up the AMG, and take a deserved rest. Project fatigue, and all that.
Fair enough. Im a strange duck in that i love them. Especially in Skittles colors.
Just passing it on. Dont worry about it. Your other thread has much more fun ideas already.

These crossed my mind too. They push a lot of the "exciting and financially dangerous" buttons, but these seem to be from the "Maserati forgot to hire a designer" period of design. Maybe they're nice inside?
And thanks for reading, it's been a fun adventure.

I'm watching all things Ferrari. Nothing is off the table, but it's probably a project approached with caution.
Thanks for the kind words about my writing. I'm going to try and get better. Maybe someday I'll do more than play around in my garage and share it with the board. For now I'm happy.

Hey we in New Zealand been watching since page 16. Well done, the aircon sounds like a pain, must be something stuck or not connected so goodluck with that. Anyway we all high five when you did first start up!
Thanks for chiming in. Still crossing my fingers that the AC is simply a 1's and 0's problem, the big scan tool should arrive this afternoon, so we'll see.
As to the NZ thing, I need to visit. The guy who owns the rally school in Austin TX spent a month driving around with you guys a while ago. He came home and spent two days on the tractor carving a series of corners that he calls the "Kiwi Corners". He swears you have the best cambered roads on the planet. I think I need to see for myself someday.

Thanks for the encouragement here and on the FB post. Figuring out how to write for a wider audience is on my list of things to do. For now I'd be very happy if I could figure out how to write and photograph well enough that the forum attracted viewers who then attracted advertisers that made sure this whole thing is worth while for the GRM crew to keep going. I know I've been responsible for a bunch of the bandwidth they had to pay for. Hopefully I can give back.

You'd want a ZF Automatic car so you don't have to deal with the Duoselect weirdness/expense. The VIS Racing aftermarket front bumper and a set of post-facelift taillights eliminate much of the dorkiness/blandness of the pre-facelift cars.

One more thought on the a/c operation, you have confirmed 14 volts at the solenoid but does the other wire have ground? It's possible that the circuit is controlled by the positive side via the ACC but some other module has the ability to deny ground.
It's 14v between the two wires. I did confirm that. If there is a physical problem it should be downstream of the connector, which is pretty much just the solenoid.

We did over 1k kilometers driving a rental focus north from the fjordlands to the Marlborough Sounds along the West coast of the south island for our honeymoon this past January. Can definitely confirm, you have GOT to go. ![](/media/img/icons/smilies/evil-18.png)
Congrats Mazduece! That's an awesome feat to have accomplished. Maybe one day I can get back out there and go for a ride. ![](/media/img/icons/smilies/laugh-18.png)
