Well, the offer of trading back was my idea- he had wanted me to pay for fixing the AC and since there was no way I was doing that I halfway threw that out as a joke. I figured he HAD to know how good of a deal he'd ended up with, but apparently severely underestimated what he thought the Echo was worth. Frankly though if he was going to pester me about every little thing that he found wrong with the car I was happier to have it for a little longer and sell it to someone else than to have to deal with him constantly. As a bonus I'll probably be able to get more out of it- and not have to worry about selling another car to get all of the cash- from selling it to someone else.
facepalms Whelp, I just can't win it seems. Around the time the potential buyer was supposed to show up ad look at the Prius, I got a text from them saying they just found out they wouldn't be getting the money they needed to buy the car until mid-June. Back to twiddling my thumbs.
Aaaand it appears that the auto FC convertible I had been eyeing is no longer listed and thus probably sold. I just can't seem to win...
Got an email (that I griped about in 'minor rants'...) very early this morning asking what the least I'd take for the Prius was, and despite my urge to inflate it due to annoyance with the whole, "What's your bottom dollar?" approach and lazy text-speak spelling, replied honestly with what the least I'd take for it ($3500) was and said flatly that it made more sense to keep it and save money on gas than to sell it for less than that. Just replied, "I only have 3000." Now I'm resisting simply replying, "Well, I guess you won't be buying a Prius today."
Still may, but that's largely because I have another potential buyer who I will hopefully be meeting up with tomorrow morning to look the car over.

That's always what they say. Tell him to let you know when he comes up with another $500.
'Wats your lowest price' guy said, "OK, thanks" when I held firm on the $3500. Girl who had called Friday and wanted to look at it with her husband early Saturday apparently decided mowing the lawn Saturday morning was more important and didn't want to test-drive it in the intermittent rain ("It would make it harder to hear the engine run, and those things are really quiet to start with..." Um... OK?). Texted them yesterday but no response, so figuring they're out.
Interestingly, my neighbor across the street who has had an interest in the car for quite a while for her son who is heading off to college in the fall may be able to afford it finally- though it will involve her paying about 2/3 of the cost up-front and then paying about $500/month for the next few months. This wouldn't be wholly unacceptable, but I'd still prefer selling it outright to someone who I'm not going to have to deal with coming knocking on my door whenever something goes wrong with it (not that she doesn't do that already when something goes wrong with their current car- minor curse of people knowing you're good with cars...). Still, should work out and I'd likely get the full $4k for it- though I didn't get the chance to tell her about the AC being out on it...

That one's a recipe for disaster. She'll hold your money hostage every time something goes wrong for the next year. $3,500 is extremely reasonable for a car that's been gone through like this one. Someone has to buy it outright so you can release your liability on it.
Aaand.... the Prius is now sold. Had three people wanting to look at it today. First was supposed to be at 5:30 and was driving in an hour and a half from Cinci- but they left an hour late so I swapped around so the next person came early, and they bought it for full asking ($3500) price. Yay! Now to find a fun convertible with that money. :)
