My SIL is rebuilding the Viper motor in his SRT pickup. Can degree has him nervous. Any enlightenment is appreciated!

1) KNOW TDC... I recommend using a piston stop... its the most accurate method I've used.

2) KNOW your cam timing card

3) use equipment that offers reliable, repeatable results

I feel like someone will say to just set it up on the factory timing marks, then someone else will tell you how important it is to degree your cam.

First cam I did I checked and it was good, so I just dot to dot them now but I am lazy.

best advice is if you want to do it, Find someone with a cam wheel, they probably know how to check it. Pay them in beer or cash and have the do it/show you

If it's the original unmolested factory setup, use the marks.
Otherwise you have to do it the right way.
