By some miracle, my buddy that was setting up my rear end made it all work. I have to find a pinion seal that actually fits but that is going to have to wait until after the challenge. There will need to be a rigged solution for that. Best is to put it all back together and load it on the trailer. I am not willing to drive 2 thousands miles with a beer can pinion seal.

Correct seal found and ordered. Should be here early enough to drive the car down.

As many know, there was much failure on the way to the challenge. A fuelling issue that appears to be an overactive evap system was giving me a rich condition.

I fought it in a napa parking lot for most of a day, I rented a truck and drive back home on a dolly.

Aftering trying to drag nose down and having the trailer wander all over the road, I put it on facing forward in neutral and hoped for the  best. It looks like I might blown reverse doing that. Sigh...

Anyway, I haven't had much garage time to dig into either issue. The car is pretty crusty in places and somewhat ragged on the inside.

All of this with the fact that I don't have a use for a luxury car in my life got me thinking. I do need a truck. I have a nice(ish) ranchero in the yard from California that is pretty rust free. It has a crap 400 and completely garbage suspension. Maybe I can do a swap of some sort here.

So, I am currently planning a complete swap of all of the good bits from the jag to the rachero. This would be front and rear subframes, engine, and likely a rebuilt transmission. It is crazy but I am thinking of taking everything and just cut and paste. It might end up just being an engine/trans swap but I would like to use it all.

So what you're saying is that the gear swap worked? That's what i want to know.

In reply to Vigo :

Yes, like a charm. For e what little distance I got to drive it with the new gears, I was impressed.
