The previous owners sprayed black bedliner willy nilly all over the Suburban, including the grill. Today I used a variety of abrasive methods/tools to remove the stuff then hit it with primer. Briget felt she could do a better job painting it so she sprayed the Atlas Yellow |(official name) all over it. It looks great but now the hood looks really bad in comparison

Those old three doors are awesome!

It was Briget's idea to put the Simpsons 3 eyed fish on the side. We will be putting a decal on now and getting a hand painted one later once bodywork is done. She's a catch (my wife, not the 3 eyed fish)
Hood and cowl are done, and I towed the race car for the first time (I need to hook up trailer brakes). I also removed the cherry bomb mufflers and installed chambered mufflers and somehow it is louder inside than it was before.

Dynomax super turbos with cheap glasspacks. Quietest performance exhaust system i have ever had.
In reply to Dusterbd13:
I'm going to put tailpipes on it and see if that makes the difference. These mufflers exit just in front of the rear tires and have turndown tips and I think the sound just reflects off the ground.

It will definitely help. By about 50%

Yeah, apparently station wagons are sensitive to drone or acoustic problems from exhaust. All the b-body wagons came with over-the-axle exhaust with a second set of resonators behind the axle. You might be able to reuse the cherry bombs as resonators in the system.
On the '89, I'm running a stubby glasspack up front with a chambered muffler in the factory location. It sounds ver' nice!
I had headers and dual ~22" Glasspacks on my '68 Sub.
Sounded pretty mean.
Still having to use the 'rollback' to extract P outa the store?
In reply to 759NRNG:
Yes, haven't sorted out a better way, yet
Just had a brainfart, ya know those fifth wheel 3 car haulers? Kinda arched frame with two maybe three axles.....find one of those, burn off the hitch post, add ball to the ramp end and voila....portable ramp, but I've no clue what your arrangement is with the 'store' property management regarding storing 'eyesores'
Can confirm, my B-body wagon was a drone factory until I dumped the exhaust out the side. I would recommend going over the axle and out the back. That should be easy thanks to the lift kit.
I think painting the roof white would really tie the overall look together nicely, and perhaps keep the interior a bit cooler at the same time. Awesome truck!
In reply to 759NRNG:
I currently have 20' long ramps but they are far too steep for the race car. I have an idea to go to Princess Auto (Canadian Harbor Freight) and get a couple of hydraulic scissors used for dump trailers, and place one at each end of the ramps. Then I extend both to get ramps level with the dock height and drive the car on, and strap it down. Then I can lower both scissors until the ramps touch ground and I can drive car off. I have to price it out to see if it's feasible.

While sanding everything down to repaint, we discovered that The bumpers and mirrors used to be white. We are not sure if it would look better to make them white again but it might happen. When we paint the roof, I'll get white primer so we can get an idea how it would look.

Yeah that $$$$ issue always has a way of making one step back and say HMMMM.
Like where you're going with this....kinda binkish with their triple throw down fab table gizmo
I got a new dash from LMC truck and put that in, and spent the better part of the day wrestling with an exhaust pipe expander to flare pipes for a dual exhaust. It was one of those expanders that goes in the pipe and you tighten a bolt to expand the pipe-it was crap. Anyways, I have dual exhaust all the way top the rear bumper and it made a world of difference to noise levels. My graphics guy also recreated the original Atomic Energy lettering on the sides.

You've probably figured it out already, those pipe expanders work pretty good if you put some flame on the pipe while you use it.
Not sure if you're old enough to remember the Underground Comix scare of the sixties, but Yellow Dog might be a cool name for the truck.

I love it- it looks so tough with the new tires and I can't wait to see the 3 eyed fish on the side. Awesome score!
In reply to Two_Tools_In_a_Tent:
Funny you should say that, I did put flame to it and that only melted the rings that held the 4 sliding pieces together, rendering it even more useless. I think it would work with 18 gauge tube but my pipes were 14 gauge.
