I must be the only guy that prefers tan interior to black interior. Other than the woodgrain, I like what's in it! But then again, it's probably a little toastier here in the summer than where you are, and burning my thighs on 150 degree black leather ain't my cup o' tea...

You might be thinking of the banjo-to-flare fitting. I don't recall what had what. Shoot a pic of your current master.

Current master has that crazy looking thing. Will get pic tomorrow.

Can I use my stock reservoir on the 929 master? Getting conflicting information. I'm not used to paying $125 for a brake master. Way cheaper san reservoir.

Dunno, I used the 929 reservoir IIRC.

If you have the crazy looking thing, then you can just pull it off. It's a typical 10x1 flare fitting on the hard line, that should plug right into the master. That's what I recall. I did this (without drama) on the Targa car, which is at the FM shop right now. The fact that I don't remember details tells me it wasn't a major challenge.

Miataroadster delrin diff mounts, vent windows, and Spec Miata aluminum passenger airbag cover. I got the cover simply because... i've always wanted one, and the airbags are going away.

Against all logic, i'm working out a deal for a pair of Cobra Monaco Pros. They're cheap enough it's worth a shot. If i don't like them, i'll probably go with the FX1 Pros and use Keith's install and enhancements in the Targa car as a guide over the winter.

Revamping my Bilstein setup as well. Going to move to a 600/400 6" spring setup with tenders.

On the way: Racing Beat 1.25" hollow bar with complete brace kit. (Bigger than commonly recommended but i've been in a really fast car with this setup and fell in love with it.) And AWR 70A engine mounts.

Still not entirely sure how i want to proceed with brakes. I have 3 options:

1) NB2/MSM booster and non-abs master
2) NB2/MSM booster and 1" 929 master
3) Try my stock booster and get the 1" Wilwood master

Option #3 is cheapest, but i'm not really interested in saving $50 to end up with inferior brakes. I'm afraid i may just have to buck up and try something and be prepared to do it again if i hate it. Logical path seems to be get the Wilwood master, try it on my booster. If i don't like it, then swap booster and end up with a fancy version of #2.

Cut new circlip position on the Bilsteins in preparation for moving to AllStar sleeves. (Look for a FS thread soon with the stuff from the existing setup i won't be using. )

Worst color combo EVER.

Those MSM Billies?

Yeah, snagged a set of 30k mile MSM billies when i was piecing this setup together for the turbo car.

After riding in/driving a very well sorted turbo NB with a homebrew Bilstein setup, i decided i'd go forward with it and maybe sink a little more money into it in the name of getting a couple years out of the setup and maybe eventually just having a fresh set revalved.

My original plan was to just roll these for a season then weigh options between Xidas or FEAL 331s over winter. Reality is that i don't have anywhere near the driving skill to surpass that which the Bilstein setup will be capable of delivering.

Keith that brake thread on m.net makes my head hurt.

But i think this is pretty much all of what i need to know:

Keith said: There are some interesting interchange options here. I have an MSM master and booster in the Targa car. If I wanted to make the brakes require a little more effort, I'd swap in a booster from a 1990-00 car.

Earlier booster = lower ratio = more pedal effort.

So.... my stock 2000 SE non-ABS booster + 1" master = pretty firm pedal, but still decently easy to modulate? My MSM had about half the pedal effort the MX6 does, and i like a pretty hard pedal.

Suppose if i put a 1" master on my car and hate it, i can always swap boosters later. Sound plan?

Megasquirt car? I fixed it, got it tuned really well, then sold it.

This car replaces that one.

It was fast, though.

Oh the MSM ran Hydra, then Haltech. Got that one tuned well on Haltech, then sold it. (Video was of the red 95) The MSM was about as fast, ended up doing a 12.7 @ 107mph on street tires.

I'm starting to see a trend here.

Heavy and hard aren't necessarily the same thing. The pedal travel isn't affected by the booster choice. I now run the MSM booster (which is found on some but not all NB2s) and a 1" master on the Targa car. That's running a set of 6-piston Dynapros on the front and Powerlites on the rear. The street Miata gets the MSM booster with a 15/16" master and in concert with the FM Little Big Brake Kit (Wilwood Powerlites on all four wheels) the brakes are fantastic. I've not tried the NB1 booster on this combo.

If you want to know all the specs for the various boosters (including line pressure), check out How To Build a High Performance Mazda Miata. If you don't have a copy, well, it's widely available
