So seeing the masters at flipping here Team Stampie decided to see about flipping a vehicle.
I found a clean looking 2000 Xterra on CL lowered from $1000 to $900. Talked to Carol and Chris and we decided to go in thirds.
PO said a mobile mechanic had diagnosed a bad distributor. AC belt missing assumed dead and she had been sideswiped on the driver's front wheel but mechanical damage fixed just needed an alignment.
I was straight up with her and told her I would flip it. Offered $500 and she took it. She asked what I would sell it for after I fixed it and I said $1200. She actually seemed interested in buying it back at that.
Yesterday before even looking at it I picked up a distributor at the all you can carry sale. Unfortunately wrong one for it's engine but at least I have a core now.
Very clean interior and exterior is pretty clean.

i hate seeing the sheetmetal you get your hands on down there
miles? if you can find a fender in right color and a bumper cover i bet you could get 3k for it up here.

I told her $1200 because I had already got the vibe she was interested. Quick cash rules especially if I'm doubling the money in what I hope is less than a week.
In reply to patgizz:
200,000. I'm going to see if I can pull that dent out and the missing piece is in the hatch. This is going to be low effort quick sale.

sell back to her fixed without ever transferring it out of her name
If she ends up not interested the lowest I found searching Gainesville Craigslist was two different ads for $2,500. One with 270k miles, and one with an engine noise.
This should be easy money at the price you got it for. I'll laugh if she buys it back.
I hope she does that would be awesome
I was really disappointed when I didn't see an upside-down Xterra.
In reply to Crackers:
I clicked on this just to make sure it was about flipping/selling not flipping/crashing.
If the PO doesn't buy it back DEFINITELY go more than 1200. In my experience people have shied away from a great car because the price was too low. They get the idea you're hiding something even though you're not. I'd throw it out for 2500 and let some one "haggle" you down to your bottom dollar. They feel like they got a deal and you made the profit you wanted. Win win.

Hit the junkyard after work today and got the correct distributor. Some cussing because the wiring plugs didn't want to release and 30 minutes later she's running.

Usually that only happens to me after a night of cheap Whiskey and Mexican.

I expected the same, in the context of more backroad hooning.

Rallycrossing gone horribly wrong/right?
yea i would say up your selling price once you get it all fixed. I has an 01 xterra that had 265xxx miles on it but ran and drove really well and was really clean. All i did to it was paint all the faded plastics back to black, manual hubs, 2" shackle lift in the back and turned torsions in the front, and added a light bar. I sold it for $2600
Seems to be coming along great.
Do these have the same badly-packaged knock sensors as the supercharged models? A guy locally bought one, tried to flip it and spent a long time trying to replace that sensor.

In reply to ssswitch:
Just glancing last night, the knock sensor appears to be right on top of the engine. Seemed like a strange place but I could see if they kept it in the same location the supercharger would make things difficult.
Strange but when I googled it showed it being under the intake. I'll have to look cause Google also had results for relocating it. Maybe that's been done to this one.
So has anyone offered $1201 yet?

Sold sold sold for $1200. I mentioned it to a co-worker this morning. He came by, looked at it for a few minutes, and gave me $500 with rest on Friday.
A deal for him and quick relatively pain free cash for you. Awesome!
Well that was quick! Did you do any cosmetic stuff or just get it running?
