My cousin sent me a message on Facebook last night asking me if I wanted to buy their four wheeler for $100 bucks. I couldn't remember what it was, but I knew it was a 4x4 and a mid 2000's something or another.... I sent her a reply saying that'd I'd come out and get it in the morning.

This morning I went out and gave them their $100 bucks, backed my truck down in a little ditch, and rolled the quad into the bed of the truck.

A little history. My uncle bought it brand new back in 05-06. At this point he lived in Arizona and out there you could license these things and ride them on public roads, so he used it to go back and forth to the store or run quick errands around his small town.

In 07 he moved back out to Missouri and of course they don't allow ATVs to be ridden around like that... So he basic just road it back and forth to the mail box, or to drag the occasional deer out of the woods.... Then as time passed it got rode less and less.

When I picked it up, my aunt said the last time they rode it, it was sputtering and my uncle said he didn't want to mess with it... So they called me, because I buy sh*t you know.

I loaded it up and took it home. This thing was covered in moss and pollen. It was kind of hard to tell the condition. It's like 100 degrees and humid out... So I sprayed out off with the hose, and dumped some Dawn dish soap on it, smeared it around with a ragged, let it sit for a min, then sprayed it off..  damn, that Dawn dish stuff always amazes me. This showed me this thing has some potential.... My uncle has dementia, and was having a hard time remembering where the title or key was, they're going to call me when they find them...

I was going to mess with it to see if I could get it started, but it was hot and I was tired so I went and plopped down in the a/c... For about 20 mins and then I got bored and went out and pulled the igition switch apart (in a fashion that it can be reassembled), and got the dash lights to work... By golly, let's she if shell fire.... Click, click, click. Threw some battery cables on it and topped the tank off with fresh gas and hit the starter button and she turned over like 3 times and fired right up. Hmm, hopped on it and drove it around the yard.  Definitely bad gas, but they always kept stable in it, so it wasn't jellyed up... Rode it around for 10 mins, I think I'll drain the tank, changed the plug, change the oil and filters and I bet shell be just fine.

The thing is in good shape. The racks have some paint flaking off, so ill just rattle can those black again. A couple of the decals are faded or peeling, so I'll remove those and replace them.. eBay has them cheap. The seat is kind of rough, so I'm just going to recover it with some black viynl I had left over from another project. I'll order a good cover and fix the foam right later, but this will do for me.

The seat was in pretty rough shape and it was really making the bike look rough.

As you can see, the seat cover is pretty much non-existent and the foam not much better. Probably should go buy a new seat, ay?

Like I mentioned before, I had some extra vinyl laying around from another project... Now I just needed some foam, we didn't have any and Im lazy and didn't want to go to the store so... I grabbed one of our old pillows that we use for camping. My wife gave me a wtf looked when she walked into the kitchen and I was slicing the cloth cover off... Lol

Laid it over the seat and it fit really good. A stretch her and there and it formed out real nice like.

Looks oem to me. LMAO

So I tossed the viynl in the dryer for a few mins to get it plyable... Then I start stabling. There's a few wrinkles I need to pull out, but looks much better than before.

Good for you.  Nice work on the seat redo.  A full tune up, maybe some new sneakers, and you're good to go.  These are fun and useful machines.  Enjoy.

I don't know about that pillow material for seat foam. It's probably going to get gross fast with any exposure to moisture.

My cousin called and asked me to bring the quad out to his place so we could go riding. It still was running right, needed some carb work and a battery... But it has a back up rope start so I decided wth. We rode around for about 20 mins and then went back up to his house to get some water... That's when he started his "already, what's its going to take to get that from you routine."

Damn it, no... I'm going to keep this.

So he pointed to his 95 Silverado... And said I paid 900 bucks for that, its got every receipt since its new... Then he walks over and grabs a folder out of it that's full of receipts... He said that tranny is shifting weird...

Ehh,no thanks. He said I just bought 600 dollars worth of tires for it, they got less than 1000 miles on it.

Ehh, you're going to have to do better.

He looks around, you can have the tool box off that other truck for it. (Its your standard diamond plated type.)

Ehh, I don't know man.

He points to a parts truck, you can pull any part you want off that as well...

Ehh, sounds like work.

He points to my old 88 I sold him for 1100 a few months ago... The master cylinder for the clutch went out of the 88, I'll give you everything I said before, plus the 88 back..... You give me the quad and 300 bucks.

I got a 100 bucks in the quad. If I give him 300 more, that would put me having 400 bucks into the two trucks plus any parts I want off the parts truck.

Ehh, okay...

Quad gone, 2 trucks are acquired.

It also came with the 04 GMC chrome wheels that are in the back.

No cracks in the dash... Seat is nice.
