My cousin sent me a message on Facebook last night asking me if I wanted to buy their four wheeler for $100 bucks. I couldn't remember what it was, but I knew it was a 4x4 and a mid 2000's something or another.... I sent her a reply saying that'd I'd come out and get it in the morning.
This morning I went out and gave them their $100 bucks, backed my truck down in a little ditch, and rolled the quad into the bed of the truck.
A little history. My uncle bought it brand new back in 05-06. At this point he lived in Arizona and out there you could license these things and ride them on public roads, so he used it to go back and forth to the store or run quick errands around his small town.
In 07 he moved back out to Missouri and of course they don't allow ATVs to be ridden around like that... So he basic just road it back and forth to the mail box, or to drag the occasional deer out of the woods.... Then as time passed it got rode less and less.
When I picked it up, my aunt said the last time they rode it, it was sputtering and my uncle said he didn't want to mess with it... So they called me, because I buy sh*t you know.
I loaded it up and took it home. This thing was covered in moss and pollen. It was kind of hard to tell the condition. It's like 100 degrees and humid out... So I sprayed out off with the hose, and dumped some Dawn dish soap on it, smeared it around with a ragged, let it sit for a min, then sprayed it off.. damn, that Dawn dish stuff always amazes me. This showed me this thing has some potential.... My uncle has dementia, and was having a hard time remembering where the title or key was, they're going to call me when they find them...
I was going to mess with it to see if I could get it started, but it was hot and I was tired so I went and plopped down in the a/c... For about 20 mins and then I got bored and went out and pulled the igition switch apart (in a fashion that it can be reassembled), and got the dash lights to work... By golly, let's she if shell fire.... Click, click, click. Threw some battery cables on it and topped the tank off with fresh gas and hit the starter button and she turned over like 3 times and fired right up. Hmm, hopped on it and drove it around the yard. Definitely bad gas, but they always kept stable in it, so it wasn't jellyed up... Rode it around for 10 mins, I think I'll drain the tank, changed the plug, change the oil and filters and I bet shell be just fine.
The thing is in good shape. The racks have some paint flaking off, so ill just rattle can those black again. A couple of the decals are faded or peeling, so I'll remove those and replace them.. eBay has them cheap. The seat is kind of rough, so I'm just going to recover it with some black viynl I had left over from another project. I'll order a good cover and fix the foam right later, but this will do for me.
