Please enlighten me about the Mustang looking wheels. Specifically diameter. I'm thinking of downsizing the rims on my 06 for a little more sidewall than a 45 aspect tire provides because Thunder Bay roads be like...

Fitment may involve a fender roller depending on ride height and alignment, but nothing outrageous was revealed in the test fit
Started the process of listing some stuff for sale. Seats, the extra door we already have, the Mazdaspeed sideskirts, etc.
And found this in the center console parts...
Checkbook and condom both apparently unused. But holy cow people, do you not even check the center console before selling a car!?!
So, now that this has been announced, I'll reference what I alluded to before:

I know 12A's aren't particularly powerful... but I reckon the RX-8, with the right engine, might slot into the 18:1, SpecMiata-based "ClubSport" class, if not the 25:1 Sundae Club class would probably be a good fit. Plus, 3 hour enduros are a bit more manageable for a small team trying to sort out a car, than a full 12 or 24hour?
ok, a few updates here! got a chance to poke around more at the car and pull the renesis out last weekend. Here are my scrambled notes in no particular order.
Also posting this here for future reference: NC miata left, RX8 right
The rx8 knuckle is slightly different in casting, but doesn't look much (if any) different in geometry. Maybe slightly stronger with the extra material on the tie rod link?
RX8
NC
RX8 other view
NC other view:
We've been discussing swapping to NC stuff to potentially use duratec piston engines, but after looking at these images stolen from ebay listings, I think the major way the NC gets clearance for the duratec is by pushing the engine further backward. Meaning there is more front strut to firewall distance on an NC than an RX8.
It would help, however, in ditching the RX8 power steering mess in favor of an easier to adapt system however. I don't think an NC rack can just bolt on because of the wildly different angles of the rack mounting surfaces.
RX8 subframe looks like it leaves plenty of room for 'activities'.

No, it was stored in a dirt-floor barn in illinois, which might be almost as bad.
However, our consensus after poking at it was "its not as bad as it looks". and then "free car".
Pics definitely look worse than it is. Flaky coatings but solid underneath, and most of the ugly is on wear parts which, at 20yrs old, should be replaced anyway
Yeah, I still vote we order a cage and find a drivetrain that works at some point in the near future. Maybe I will bring one or 4 of Dan's 12a home at the end of the month and megasquirt it over the winter.
If the stock rack fits with your choice of engine, it's easy to keep. Just make sure you have the wheel speed sensors attached to their proper loction and the eps will work.
Some of the rx8 ABS systems are stand alone and will work as well. Keep it if you can.

Nothing a few replacement arms can't fix.

This is really good to know! I vaguely remember chatting with you about this at the challenge too. I am a huge fan of ABS on track cars, as long as it isn't intrusive.
I also think we "assume" this car has the "performance" brakes since it was manual trans. However, probably good to confirm. The "performance" brakes have a front rotor diameter of 12and3/4 inch instead of the "standard" just under 12 inch diameter front rotors.
In reply to Robbie (Forum Supporter) :
At least at the beginning, I thought the manual only came with the bigger brakes. Regardless, it is plenty easy to check.
I can't tell if that the a/c condensor, or the radiator there...
...nor if the camera is making it look like it's mounted in an advantageously leaned state?

Yes. And yes.
If one were to relocate the battery, evacuating the radiator thru the hood would become ridiculously simple

I would recommend that engine selection err on the side of "short enough" that it doesn't impede such a flow, especially with some variety of "waterfall duct" if possible... ...but, y'all are probably already thinking about that.
edit:
also, keep the oil/trans coolers... although look at if you can turn them so they accept flow from the middle and exit out ahead of the front wheels in a "sheet" (ala the ducts common on CUV/SUV's 2018+)
Yall still shoving a 12a in there?
Wanna sell your non floppy passenger side sun visor, non broken ashtray, and give me those tribars?
Haha.
