My first thought was wondering if the speed3 turbo hot side fits but I didn't want to some right out and say it.

I do the logbook that mazdeuce reccomends. Anyone else ever see 2500 for a camry with 350k on it? Logbook sold it at full asking price.

Also, happy birthday and liscense day!!!

I drove almost that exact same truck in college. Good trucks and easy maintenance.

Went to dinner and came back to a dent in my hood... can't tell if something fell on it, or some jack wagon decided to give the pretty red truck a shiner...

it's alright, we were gonna get the hail damage repaired anyways so it'll get fixed promptly. sadly no picture, its really dark outside.

Ain't that some E36 M3.

Sorry to hear about the new dent. At least it wasn't after you repaired the hail.

Currently browsing craigslist for budget wheel options, any suggestions? I see a lot of late model OEM Jeep wheels for very cheap, thoughts?

Jeep, some Subaru, Mustang, Explorer will all work. The big Chrysler stuff (300, Magnum, Charger) has been used too, but it's technically not the exact same bolt pattern, just very close.

For the Mustang wheels, 04 and older offsets tend to work best. 05 and newer would require a large spacer.

I've decided to go with some early 2000's cobra wheels. Just gonna wait for a good set to pop up for the right price.

As it usually goes with these things, life has gotten crazy. Finishing up sophmore year is proving to be a lot tougher than expected. However, in all the madness I still find time to relax and enjoy that which is on four wheels. I went out to the local cars and coffee meet for the first time by myself. I snapped a few pictures, I'm showing y'all my favorites (which mostly boils down to small mazdas...)

In between all that I've been doing some racing!

just not the kind in a car... I have to use my feet.

I just got back from the state track meet, where I placed 5th overall in the 800m and 3rd in both the 4x400m and the 4x800m races. It was a pretty successful weekend.

Track is the most grassroots of racing all you need is a pair of shoes!

Long time ago before you were born I ran track. I was a 400m specialist but always wish I could have ran the 800m more. My best 400m was 56.8 which is probably slow for you young whippersnappers today. I'm trying to get my 9 year old into running. My fat belly prevents me from running these days.

nice truck - those rangers are everything a simple, useful machine should be and some people have done some pretty sweet little tweaks to them. i rarely see them as nice as yours though.

don't sweat the dent too much, a truck's not a proper truck without a couple war scars! that's why they call it the Danger Zone amirite?

nice job at the track meet! 5th and 3rd are super respectable at the state level. ah yes...i too remember when i used to be kinda fast, back in the daydid OK in cross-country but my jam was the 800, 4x8 and 4x4...got within a second of breaking the 2:00 barrier in the 800 but that was all i had in the tank.

The 800 is my event, I'm like 6th in the nation for sophomores. Do whatever you can to get your son into running. It has changed my life, not in one of those "self-help" book showy ways. I love the team and it has taught me lessons that I wouldn't have learned any other way. But I may be biased cause it's what is gonna get me through college.

I love the sport. Running is the best. I agree, a few dents aren't hurting anyone. It's just character... right?

So what college of engineering are you planning on going to?

A friend of mine at work (remember, I work for Ford) ran track at Michigan, and how she got her ME degree.

Work hard on math and science, and use that speed talent to go to a great engineering school.

Oh, and tolerate the truck. When you become a member of SAE team, you will be very valuable with a bed like that.

I have no idea for college, I guess I'll figure out which of my options have the best engineering program when they start reaching out for track. Math and Science are my two favorite subjects (no surprise). I'll tolerate the truck, don't worry, I've got some plans for it.

Speaking of plans: How hard is it to manual swap one of these? I would need a trans and a pedal box. But if I had the help of a local mechanic shop would it be difficult? I love driving stick and the auto is a large limiting factor of this fine beast.

I can get a manual trans for around $400 and can probably pull a pedal box from a junkyard. What would I need to modify in the ecu (or replace)?

On something that new you'd probably have to have it reflashed or put in a manual ECU along with whatever needs to be done to keep the immobilizer happy, check if the driveshafts are different too. Don't forget the flywheel and flywheel bolts. Somebody has probably done this before, I'd recommend googling it. The mechanical side of things should be pretty straightforward.

STM317

The Duratec 2.3 has a unique bellhousing bolt pattern among Ranger engines, so no other manual Ranger transmissions will work.

In addition to the trans you'll need:

A new driveshaft, as the length of the manual trans is different from the auto. I'm not sure I've ever seen a Duratec/manual/extended cab combo, so a custom driveshaft might be required.

A PCM from a manual truck, OR an aftermarket tuner to delete the Auto trans functions from your PCM

Pedals and clutch master cylinder

Also, make sure your dash wiring harness has a clutch pedal position sensor plug. Most auto equipped Rangers did, and they just put a cap on it and tucked it under the dash. However, some unlucky people did not get the plug for the clutch pedal sensor and had to hack some wires under the truck to make it work.

Also, this part is not required, but Duratec/auto trucks supposedly all got 4.10 rear gears from the factory, while Duratec/manual trucks got 3.73s. This shouldn't be a deal breaker at all, but you may want to consider a rear gear swap depending on your goals/use for the truck. With 3.73s, my Duratec spins 2500+rpm at 65mph. 4.10s might be more fun, but will increase NVH while decreasing highway fuel economy.

Ask and ye shall receive...for $13k with 27k miles.

They are actually quite popular as the 3.0 it replaced had, in its best year 150 hp @ 4900 rpm/180lb ft @3900 rpm of torque vs the 2.3 Duratec at 151 hp @5750 rpm / 154 lb ft @ 4250 rpm. Put it in a lighter weight package and with better fuel economy and emissions and you quickly come to the conclusion Ford didn't upgrade the old 2.3/2.5 Lima motor, they killed it and replaced the little V6.

Cool! I love my Duratec. In my opinion, it's the best engine they put in Rangers over the years even if my 3.0 now puts it to shame.
