That video is a classic. And equally horrifying.
Still need transmission advice.
summary: odd noise in 5th. Slight noise in 3rd. Silence in 4th. Runs great. Recent clutch change not done by me. Fluid level check on level ground, motor off in gear and level is just dripping.
should I have checked level running and in neutral or is that just an auto thing?
Your fluid level sounds correct. Assuming it is full of ATF, some have reported beneficial results from switching to synchromesh.
Beyond that, high mileage manual transmissions can just be noisy. Sometimes for a very long time, others not so much. I'd ask for more info on the particular noise(accel or decel, whining or grinding, etc.), but it doesn't really matter as there are no external adjustments available. If the noise is at a concerning level for you, it likely needs to get opened up or replaced with a lower mileage unit.

That's disappointing. I was hoping there was some time of linkage adjustment. The stick has a harder time going right rather than left in neutral- something is off.
I'm still driving the truck some. Put another half tank of gas in it and I think I'm up around 150 miles.
I haven't done anything else yet- I'm in sales and Q4 isn't really project time. I'm now basically off till the 2nd week of Jan, but we're headed for the Mountains.
I've been thinking about- what can you do with a vehicle like this? I like it for sure- but I've got limited space. How in the world could I ever sell my grandfathers truck that my dad gave me- and yet- I still want a 911. That would make 4 cars. My wife would kill me and I also don't want 3 in the driveway. We can only fit one in the garage. It's a weird feeling to think about, but I'm sure others have been there as well.
This thing has 220k miles on it- would I put a new motor in it if it decided to cash in? It's not like you can go back in time and buy this particular truck again. I guess it just feels weird to have a car that you will have for the rest of your life that you didn't choose. I'm happy to have it- it's just odd. Maybe this is a mid life crisis thing at 42.
Regardless, it's not going anywhere and I drove it twice today. I like it for how simple it is- it's a stick and it's peppy. The transmission noise is annoying though.
